What can a bike in Thinktank Birmingham tell us about histories of technology and empire? A new article by historian Nathan Cardon explores cycling as an act of resistance to British imperial occupation of eastern African @thinktankmuseum @artsatbhambirmingham.ac.uk/schools/lcaâŠ
It is "Gallery Week" here @TheGolovine & I have been having an interesting time exploring public art & museum collections with our students. Yesterday I went on a sculpture & memorial walk looking at legacies of industry & empire with MA "Made in Birmingham: Art & Urban space"

BRUMMIES: Can anyone confirm that Luke Perry's Forward Together sculpture is still in Colmore Sq?? I'm taking students on a sculpture walk tomorrow and completely failed to double check ... normally I'm not worried that public art will just vanish but this has a history of it..
Voted YES today in @ucu reballots. Fair pay, pensions & an end to casualisation is the very least we deserve. Industrial action is working. Get voting folks, let's get this done! @birminghamucu#ucuRISING (also loving all the yarnbombed postboxes)

One of the things I've noticed about all the amazing photos of striking colleagues is how many of them look the same because of the horrible corporate identikit campus architecture people are standing in front of...
if youâre a FT permanent academic & youâre not on strike, PLEASE rethink. think of the casual staff using food banks. the fixed termers who canât put the heating on. the future gens who canât have academia as a future because of crap conditions. itâs for us & them #ucuRISING
I NEED EVERY UCU MEMBER AND SUPPORTER TO RT THIS THREAD.
University bosses are rattled. Across the UK they are threatening UCU members with unfair and immoral pay deductions if they take part in action short of striking. This thread exposes every single one of them

Many congratulations Caitlin! I cannot wait to read this and it is already on order at our library. This is going to be an absolutely transformative publication
So many congratulations. Really pleased for you and really looking forward to seeing what happens next with your fantastic research. For now though have a wonderful celebration!

Brilliantly put. What is happening at Birkbeck is devastating, & it is part of a much wider phenomenon. There is something truly magical about birkbeck. I know of no other university that instantly conjures the phrase"changed my life" from so many. It certainly changed mine.
Very pleased to announce a Ph.D. opportunity: Collaborative Doctoral Award based at Cambridge to work with me & Barbara Wood (National Trust) on the Acland family of Killerton House, Devon and their imperial connections. Please spread the word! oocdtp.ac.uk/aclands-killertâŠ
Many congratulations! I'm so looking forward to seeing this. We were very fortunate to be able to welcome Dr Parmar to speak to our students @TheGolovine about her work last year; am sure lots of them will want to visit too
I am in town this morning and note that Birminghamâs raging bull is now glaring at the Conservative party conference tents all over centenary Square and I'm thinking about that quite hard.
Would like to add my voice to the legions of bisexuals unaware that we should be aware of our awareness this week.
But also YAY! Visibility matters! Insert bisexuality flag emoji. No wait there isn't one. MORE AWARENESS needed.
