Thank you for the opportunity to remind everyone of the value brought by laboratory physicians and scientists and the untapped opportunity to do more.
In our special Lab Week episode of LabMind, we discuss with Paul Epner (@plepner,) CEO of @ImproveDx, how cross-disciplinary collaboration is fundamental to the critical impact of laboratory medicine, and the overall quality of medical care. #DxError bit.ly/32qILi0

#COVIDー19 is the current problem that clearly illustrates the impact of delayed, inaccurate or miscommunicated diagnoses, the most common, most catastrophic and most costly patient safety issue in our system. Will we finally make the investment to improve diagnostic quality?

Forgive me for introducing a different question… Has anyone collected data about diagnostic accuracy or errors in telemedicine? I suspect I know the answer #teledx

What one feasible new option would maximize the value of telemed? #teledx

Remember, we're still talking diagnosis, not treatment monitoring. #teledx

Diagnosis always involves uncertainty. How do you decide when to convert?#teledx
Replying to @kkcorbet
We are still doing in person visits so if the #telehealth visit is not conclusive, we will convert it to an physical visit #teledx

Good question. Do we need a separate training program on how to do #teledx? Documentation, eliciting information, describing symptoms in relatable terms?
24 Apr 2020
Replying to @plepner
#teledx what is the opportunity to streamline documentation so the right info is captured and available for ongoing care?

Interesting that remote medicine may facilitate relationship-building and engagement. #teledx
yes, ironically, when on video we don’t usually compete with entering info into the EHR so it may be better :) #teledx

Joe, what have you and ATA found about relationship-building between MD and patient in telemed? #teledx
Replying to @arwmd
the key is choosing what to use #teledx for. This is a perfect use-case.

In fact, because of greater access, it can be easier to build a longitudinal relationship #teledx
Replying to @KathyMcDonald
Thank you Kathy! Helpful to think about #TeleDx as a process versus a single interaction!

But is that optimized for the modality? Can we not just do the same, but do differently #teledx
A2. #teledx I don't expect any patient prep. I take care of urgent care issues, and often meeting them for the first time. No different than an in office acute visit. If chronic mgmt, have BP log, Glu log, etc - same as in-office.
