Nope The climate crisis should be prioritised as an immediate, urgent security crisis, not just a critical existential environmental one UKโ€™s Joint Intelligence Committee, on which heads of MI5 and MI6 sit, released last month its national security assessment irishtimes.com/environment/2โ€ฆ

At least you can celebrate the catastrophe in your own lifetime. Most predictors of doom have passed away, disappointed in the outcome. Nice to be proved right.

It's looking that way We're talking 1 in 100 200 500 & even 1000 yr events happening every few years to decades now in in the near future. It's not survivable.

How exactly is it 'catastrophic'? In my country, UK, it's about 5 degs in winter and 25 degs in Summer. That's 20 deg difference. How come we all have no trouble surviving such a change?

Been trying to point this out to you Ryan. It over. Civilization is toast. Warming faster, much faster, than ANY of the previous warming extinctions ๐Ÿ‘€ Must Watch ""The Antropocene: Where on Earth are we going? " Transcript "geologists just last year came up with an astounding finding.. these two rates, the current rate of co2 - temperature change is almost UNPRECEDENTED in the ENTIRE HISTORY of our planet, 4.5 billion years"๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ”ฅ youtu.be/t2C6NfFIK_g

Seriously Zeke. Certainly growth doesn't make sense either. What does growth mean anyways? We've trashed all 9 boundaries ๐Ÿ‘€ For some reason they don't think ocean/ocean acidification has tipped. But it clearly has & it's a mass extinction event unfurling in there @jrockstrom

Even the 1.5C warming we're experiencing NOW is catastrophic. Consequences are unfurling.. 1 in ~500yr events every couple of years or so are not survivable ๐Ÿ˜ž XR was right #xrwasright #tellthetruth #climatecatastrophe #gameover
Good Golly this paper (still not peer reviewed) is something elseโ€ฆ โ€œProjections based on the accelerated trend estimates suggest the potential for an additional 0.5โ€“1.0ยฐC of warming within the next decade.โ€ Jesus, Mary and Joseph! That would mean potentially more than 2C warming *before* 2040. Please be wrong! h/t @ProfBillMcGuire

Been trying to point this out for 15yrs. It's on steroids & it's going to get to ~3C much earlier than was anticipated by the IPCC. And there is no stopping it now. Maybe back in the 70s we might have had a chance at limiting it. But the impacts of 1C are now clearly catastrophic for civilization #XRwasRight ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ˜”
The world has warmed by around 1.4C since 1850. It took 148 years for the first half of that warming to occur, and just 27 years for the second half!

I mean, Iโ€™m all for putting things into perspective, but when it comes to global warming, zooming out a couple thousand years is not exactly reassuring.

Zoom out your graph to include just a few thousand little years. Andโ€ฆ. Breathe. Happy weekend!

Iceland has already much more renewable energy per capita than the total energy need of an average western citizen. Yet it emits more CO2 per capita than the world average. In which year do you think they could reach zero emissions? how much are you ready to bet on it ?

Renewables are not replacing fossil fuels though, they are just adding to an ever increasing energy grid. Also emissions are just one of many planetary boundaries we are crossing because of our addiction to consumption.

Strange take for a scientist. Infinite growth on a finite planet means degrowth is a mathematical certainty. Exponential growth is why 7 of the 9 Planetary boundaries are breached. Degrowth won't be a choice, it will be imposed by Gaia.
