During the Cold War, space was the ‘final frontier’. The powerful needed new things to fight about and control. The race to space created technologies, industries, wealth and strategic power that shaped the modern world. A few nations gained decades of advantage from owning that frontier. India refused to remain dependent. We invested in our own capabilities and while it may have taken time, we have become an independent player in space technology building and executing high-stake missions. Today, AI is the new frontier. There is no reason for us to not find the same belief that we did for our space and nuclear programs. It does not matter if Anthropic’s withdrawal is temporary or not. We cannot lead in ensuring the benefits of a technology we do not own. We cannot build long-term growth or resilience if we only consume and rent and do not build.
