After 5 years of trial and error trying to make games in a custom engine, I've finally made something that isn't just a glorified hello world triangle! 3 days until Terrafactor releases on Steam!!!

shoutout to the Odin lang @TheGingerBill — wouldn't have been anywhere near as fun to make this in C/C sitting at around ~50k LOC for the project now and still only doing 3s compile times. magic.

Been working on this factory building game for around 1 year now. Your goal is to feed a black hole increasingly advance tech.

You are guessing at your priorities until you observe someone else play your game. That will reveal the actual problems you need to fix. Not the ones you think you need to fix.

No one gets to the end of their life and says I wish I had played it safe. You’re gonna die. Don’t let your dream die with you.

Solve real problems that come from code you have written. Not imaginary problems in code you are yet to write. Just type it out first.

I don't think it's possible to create anything in public without receiving some level of hate. Hate is just a cost that needs to be paid in order to create.

Percieved problems aren't real problems. Don't overthink, just do. Then solve the real problems that arise from the doing.

I think the phrase "work smarter, not harder" has hurt me more than it's helped. It's encouraged me to look for the easy way out and to pursue different opportunities when things get hard. When in reality, I just need to work 10x harder to accomplish what I want.

Game dev without an engine is surprisingly easy when you learn the skills needed to make the specific style of game you're after. Learning them is the hard part.

Do not program a game engine. Instead, become the game engine.

One of the main reasons I don't like using something like Unreal or Godot is that I love doing a full rebuild of everything AND run in less than a second. Even when I'm 20k lines deep in a project.

Getting ratholed on technical challenges that aren't just simply MAKING THE GAME Is the main reason why game dev from scratch is so fucking difficult.

A moment of silence for all of our brothers who are writing their ECS Once that's done, I'm sure it'll finally be time to make the game! ...oh wait, nevermind now it's time to work on the UI library. After that, I'm sure it'll finally be time to make the game!
