Two years ago, Promoting Queens was just a dream. Today, we’ve reached 500 girls across Africa — teaching them more than chess. We’re building confidence, courage, and queens who dare to lead. From Nigeria to Kenya, the movement is growing. And we’re just getting started. ♟👑

One of my favorite moments from the Abuja Classical Chess Tournament had nothing to do with the games on the board. A female player was balancing her tournament games with caring for her baby, often stepping away from the board to attend to the child before returning to play.

Naomi quit chess last year….🥲 Then we launched our Mombasa girls club in Kenya and something shifted. She came back. Picked up the pieces. Stayed consistent when it would’ve been easy not to…

This month she went undefeated at the Under-14 Girls Kiembini Cluster Chess Tournament in Kenya. The seeds we planted are sprouting. 🌱 Naomi’s story isn’t about chess. It’s about what happens when a girl is given a reason to come back.

Talent is universal. Opportunity is not. That’s why Promoting Queens exists so a girl in Mombasa has access to the same quality of training, mentorship, and belief as anyone else. If you’re a chess coach who wants to volunteer, a donor, or someone who believes talent shouldn’t be limited by geography we want to hear from you….💜💜💜

And to think Naomi quit playing as of last year. Seeing her back and winning is everything @promotingqueens exists for. This is why we don’t give up on girls. Talented, hardworking, unstoppable….💜💜💜

Bravery isn’t always loud. Sometimes it’s a girl picking up a chess piece for the first time. Sometimes it’s coming back after a hard loss. Sometimes it’s just showing up. We see you. Keep going. ♟️💜💜💜

HISTORIC TITLE!!!! 🇺🇦🏆 Congrats to 15-year-old Anastasiia Hnatyshyn (2207) on becoming the new European Women's Champion! 🥳🥳🥳 She is the lowest-rated champion ever by a long shot (!), breaking the previous record set by Ulviyya Fataliyeva (2377) two years ago! 🤯

The “weakest candidate” in the field. Won the World Championship at 45. What they didn’t mention: during WWII, she led dozens of children 2,000 km through a war zone to safety. On foot. Through a war. She had already proven she didn’t lose under pressure. The chess world just hadn’t caught up. 👑♟️ #PromotingQueens #LyudmilaRudenko #WomenInChess

3 years of growth and impact! Happy anniversary @promotingqueens
Someone once asked me if I ever thought about quitting. The question genuinely confused me. Quit? That word never lived in my head. There were hard seasons, times life got heavy and I just needed to breathe. But quit? No. Not this… Today, @promotingqueens turns 3. And in these 3 years, we have sat across a chessboard with 1,500 girls and women. We have watched them walk in unsure and walk out knowing something new about themselves. We did this with zero grants. No funding. Just people who believed this had to exist. I am so proud. 🥹 And I am so grateful.🙏🙏🙏 To everyone who has been here since day one I carry every one of you. This is yours too. We are not stopping until we reach girls everywhere. If something in you stirs reading this join us. As a volunteer, a donor, a partner, or simply someone who believes every girl deserves her seat at the board. Every girl is a Queen. 💜💜💜
