Reform is set to issue England’s largest council tax rise in Worcestershire. A rare display of efficiency by the party, breaking their election promises ahead of schedule

If the British media covered issues affecting different generations equally and fairly, the student loan scandal, which will see young people robbed of many thousands of pounds, would be top of every single news bulletin and on the front of every single newspaper - just like when wealthier pensioners faced losing £200 a year in Winter Fuel Payments. But it doesn’t and so it won’t be.

81 years ago Auschwitz was liberated. More than one million children, women and men were murdered there as part of the Holocaust. A dark lesson of history; humanity owes it to each of the victims to ensure it will never happen again. @AuschwitzMuseum #HolocaustMemorialDay

I cant resist a tad of schadenfreude as I was accused of scaremongering about predicting all negative consequences of Brexit a decade ago. Always knew Brexiteers had no hard evidence to substantiate their sunlit uplands claims. All done on a wing and a prayer. UK was sold a pup!
🚨 BREAKING: The City finally admits it 👉Brexit broke Britain’s money machine. Treasury’s new figures show: 💸 UK productivity has crashed since Brexit. 🏦 £1 trillion in banking assets have fled to the EU. 📉 City output once the driver of UK growth is now dragging it down. 💔 Result: a £20 billion hole in the public finances. Even Chancellor Rachel Reeves now admits Brexit caused the slump but refuses to fix it by rejoining the Single Market. This isn’t just about bankers. When productivity falls, everyone pays: Lower wages 💷 Higher taxes 📈 Worse public services 🏥 Brexit didn’t take back control, it took away Britain’s future earnings. The money machine is misfiring and Labour’s red lines mean it stays that way. theguardian.com/business/202…

Now that @ZackPolanski is the leader of a party with the same amount of MPs as Reform UK, but more councillors, he should get as much media coverage. RT if you agree!

So to sum up… The “story” is that a working class, Northern woman (hated by the Right), bought a house, paid the right amount of Stamp Duty, AND declared and paid the additional Council Tax she was required to pay. Yup, that’s it. That’s the story that’s dominated for several days now🙄 16/17

'The Thames at Wapping.' (1931) Algernon Newton painted the Thames in this part of London on many occasions. This picture apes the way Canaletto painted Venice by defining space through light, a technique that makes Newton's work so beguiling.

Cancer Research UK today published a report which highlights changes in cancer survival rates over the last 50 years. Many headlines (like this one from the Guardian) have chosen to report the ‘doubling of cancer survival rates’ since the 1970s. But that's misleading... 1/18

A reminder that the sycamore tree has a future. Thank you to everyone who has been in touch and supported this project.
I love this map of places where sycamore gap tree saplings will be planted. They include the Rob Burrow Centre for MND and a plot in memory of a 15 year old girl killed by her ex-boyfriend. They stretch from the Orkneys to Cornwall. By the National Trust.
