This is likely my last post here as I head over to that blue atmosphere joint. Same handle (@ptgoetz) if you'd like to join me.
I got tired of version strings in project files getting out of sync with git tags, etc. I don’t want to have to switch python/js/etc. virtual environments just to run what is fundamentally a find/replace operation with some git operations. github.com/ptgoetz/go-versio…

Some amazing things are afoot @sema4ai . Super proud of everyone who helped in delivering it. Looking forward to sharing more details soon…

🧵 An opinion/hill I’m willing to die on: Adobe’s Portable Document Format (PDF) is the single greatest source of tech debt in the digital era.

Hindsight is 20/20, but I firmly believe that the PDF format caused more harm than good.

IIMHO, it all could have been avoided by splitting the format into two sections: 1. The data to be rendered. 2. Rendering instructions.

So getting structured data out of a PDF comes down to Vision, whether it be human or machine. For humans, it’s expensive, for machines the risk is misinterpretation.

Just look at all the vendors of LLM-based solutions trying to offer a way to reliably turn PDFs into structured data!

Pro Tip: If you apply for a job at an AI company, don’t use a GPT to generate your take-home assignment code. Just do your honest best. Plus, WTF were you thinking? Do you think we don’t have the knowledge/processes to detect it?!

As a developer, I find copilot code completions counterproductive. I have to evaluate every suggestion to see if it’s what I want. Most times it’s not, or is subtly wrong. It slows me down. “Chat with your code” is much more useful. Agents will make that even more powerful.
After the boom of ChatGPT and copilots, we’ve found that the real value lies in AI Agents. In @Forbes, I explore some early use cases where AI agents are set to transform industries forbes.com/sites/forbestechc…

If there’s one piece you read today about Ukraine, make it this one. As a former photojournalist it really resonated with me. “Let the faces tell the story.”
Left alone in a crucible against a dying power, Ukraine was forced to redefine what power is on its own. Ukraine has now utterly changed how we will think of power for the remainder of the century. The “great power” militaries are running to catch up. greatpower.us/p/ukraine-is-t…
