You missed a tiny bit out: 1.7 million GP visits saved, Over 4 million fewer sick days, household savings of up to Β£1700, 2,500 early deaths prevented. 115 billion in value to the economy. I don’t have enough space for the rest. πŸ˜€
Guns or… zebra crossings? Amid the defence budget crisis, some are baffled as to why the government is spending Β£4.5 billion on zebra crossings and other measures to aid walking and cycling. But, Olympic cyclist @Chris_Boardman says it will give Brits health and independence.

My piece in the @GuardianAus today arguing govts can't afford to repeat the mistakes they made with the gas industry. With huge investment in data centres - why aren't we asking what this is all for and how Australians are going to benefit from it? If we do want data centres and multinational tech giants are going to use Australian land, Australian energy, Australian water & Australian workers to build the infrastructure that powers the AI revolution, then Australians deserve a fair return. That's the lesson we failed to learn with gas. We shouldn't wait another generation to learn it again. theguardian.com/commentisfre…

Peter Garrett inquiry into #Aukus: should have been done by parliament but Libs bowed to Morrison’s folly and Labor was paralysed by the wedge. Now it’s DIY. πŸ‘ This is how the duopoly lost votes: looking after themselves instead of doing the job. theguardian.com/australia-ne…

The climate deniers like LNP and ON, and backsliders like #BHP, might need an alternative to β€˜but China’ soon, if πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ keeps this up. Emissions cut equal to Germany’s emissions. Puts the fossil fuel-led Oz climate debate πŸ™„ into perspective. #auspol26
New from me: China made a dramatic change to its carbon emissions numbers in the 15th five-year plan, erasing half of the previously reported emissions growth from 2020 to 2025. In absolute terms, the change is equal to the total emissions of Germany or South Korea.

Angus Taylor at election day presser: β€˜we understand #Farrer needs water for irrigation, and immigration to protect our way of life’. Not asked about $80m of phantom water and whether the racist dog whistle means fewer foreign fruit pickers.

Remarkable that Speers does not ask about emissions when questioning Canavan about his fossil fuel fantasy of Australia. #QuestionsNotAsked Wouldn’t mire drilling increase emissions? Should we tax beer and students more than gas? Lead time of new refinery? #insiders

So Angus Taylor would deny passports to Aus citizens? Like, break the law? Whatever the merits, he should back the law over Ministers picking favourites. If these people return, the law can deal with them. Did David Speers ask him about the $80m?πŸ’§Probably missed it. #insiders

Bad news for Matt Canavan, Liam Bartlett and others tending stranded assets: πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ electricity is over one-third renewables. #auspol
NEW US electricity data ⚑️ In March, renewables produced more than a third of US electricity for the first time ever, even overtaking gas generation! Wind and solar combined reached over a quarter (26%) for the first time.

Two excellent questions about corporate handouts for r&d when the startup is owned by tiny outfits like Rio Tinto (and Gina-related companies previously) because industry has government over a jobs barrel. Neither one answered by Tim Ayres. #npc

He did make a valid point about commitment to science not being universal in the Aus parliament though. Imagine the orange cooker party in charge of science. 😱 #npc

Nice little myth buster from Potsdam. #scicomms #climate
Only a small fraction of greenhouse gases is needed to create most of the greenhouse effect, because these gases absorb specific wavelengths of the heat the Earth emits, states PIK scientist @rahmstorf in new explainer on climate change mythsπŸ‘‡Full video: youtube.com/watch?v=0mla1i9A…

Shorter Barnaby: you have to contribute to intl efforts you benefit from (except climate), go forth and panic buy, govt should ration and open fuel refineries (in communist tradition), Koran bad for murdering people (bible presumably ok), racism ok if single mum. #insiders
