Sick of seeing ‘the toughest classes need the best teachers’ comments. wtf is ‘the best’ teacher? ‘The best’ teacher for one student/class/school is not ‘the best’ for another. I’ve seen teachers who are wizards with formerly U-grade kids crumble with a top set—and vice versa.

Students need all kinds of teachers. - The extroverts who bring energy. - The introverts who lead with quiet thoughtfulness. - The serious teachers who bring structure and focus. - The silly teachers that put students in a state of relaxed alertness. - The spontaneous teachers who model a creative spirit. - The organized teachers who bring clarity and consistency. Part of education is learning how to work with, learn from, and relate to people who are different from ourselves.

Sometimes (only sometimes) parental complaints to school are like complaining to an Italian restaurant that they don’t serve curry. And they’re going to complain to the highest level until they are made to serve curry. When there’s a perfectly good curry house a few shops along.

If a person casually says ‘Some [people in x category] are bad’ or ‘This specific other [person in x category] sucks’ and you take that as a personal attack on you, you are revealing a lot about yourself—and your comprehension skills. Chill out, Defensive Debbie.

Seems like a bit of an oversight for the headline to mention him asking if he could kiss her, but not mention him cornering her, leaning his body against her and grabbing her hair. Or that she was a child sexual abuse survivor and he was a stalker.

I can’t understand how teaching parents do it. Going from ‘Miss! Miss! Miss!’ all day to ‘Mum! Mum! Mum!’ all evening. When do you regulate yourself? When do you exist for yourself? When do you rest? When are you at peace? When do you stare at a wall in silence for five hours?

Student to teacher ratio. 30-1 5-1 1-1 When commenting on behaviour in schools, some people seemingly have zero idea how different this is. What's possible vs impossible. How students act with an audience vs not. How much time you have as a teacher vs not. How much is happening at any one time. I could go on.

Shame on HoDs who do this and schools that allow it.

Ofsted toolkit: Attainment. For me, all of these points serve to unfairly hit schools with more disadvantaged students. The 'compared to national averages' thing is nonsense. Always will be. Just leave attainment out of the equation and judge what you see in the 2 days.

It's really telling that, having inspected around 250 secondary schools, that @Ofstednews have yet to identify a single school with low or very low levels of prior attainment that have achievement that is worthy of others coming to see how they manage it.

I know it’s just part of the job, but unfounded parental complaints when you do SO much for their child is really upsetting.
