❗️LE FONDATEUR FONDU ? À Orillia en Ontario, une statue en bronze de près de cinq mètres de hauteur en l'honneur de Samuel de Champlain a été descendue de son socle. Pris dans une tempête de controverses depuis des années ainsi que dans une valse de tergiversations autour de la question coloniale, les autorités municipales avaient retiré la statue « afin de la restaurer » pour finalement la remettre en place au mois de mai (en ayant toutefois perdu sa base ainsi que les personnages qui l'accompagnaient). Le retour du Champlain de bronze au parc de la plage de Couchiching n'a pas fait que des heureux. En effet, depuis sa réinstallation, des manifestations d'opposition se sont organisées et du vandalisme à la peinture orange a lésé la statue. Hier, une grue a définitivement déboulonné Champlain pour le coucher sur la plate-forme d'un camion afin de l'emporter dans un lieu gardé secret. Le maire d'Orillia, Don McIsaac, a même évoqué la possibilité que la statue soit envoyée à la fonte ! ⚜️Chez Nouvelle Alliance, nous n'acceptons pas que le fondateur de Québec soit traité ainsi. C'est un affront grave à un de nos plus grands héros. Le Québec n'a pas de lien conflictuel avec la figure de Champlain, bien au contraire ! 🛡️Conséquemment, nous demandons au gouvernement du Québec, par le biais du ministre de la culture @lacombemathieu, d'entrer en contact avec les autorités municipales de la ville d'Orillia afin d'organiser le transfert de la statue en sol québécois. Champlain est ici chez lui. Ne laissons pas les Ontariens fondre le Père de la Nouvelle-France !
