I'm really thankful to the @ontarioartscouncil for giving me the opportunity this year to learn with Nicole Breit and Rowan McCandless this year, through an OAC grant under the Skills and Career Development - Indigenous Arts Professionals and Arts Professionals of Colour program.
ALT A picture of a laptop computer with several browser windows open, one of which displaying the Ontario Arts Council logo. Across the laptop keyboard is an open notebook displaying handwritten notes, with a pen on top.
My mind has been heavy with thoughts of how Indigenous writers and writers of colour are facing increasing efforts to silence their creative voices, amidst already formidable institutional, economic, political and social challenges.
I've been rather capacity-challenged the last few months, but I want to announce that I'll be giving a mini-talk on giving sensitive feedback on Aug. 16th, as part of the 2025 HippoCamp online CNF conference, presented by @hippocampusmag !
ALT Text: HippoCamp Minis: Craft - 5 CNF topics in a Flash: Justin Ancheta (How to Give Sensitive & Effective Feedback), Aurora Bonner (Writing Place as a Lived Experience), Jackie Domenus (Experimenting with POV in CNF), Amy Fish (6 Interview Tip for CNF Writers), Lillie Gardner (Contrast, Conflict and Change) - Saturday, Aug. 16, 11 am to 12:30 pm ET - See full line-up and register at hippocampusmagazine.com/events
This is long overdue, but I want to let folks know that @JamesPrescott77's Poema Podcast episode with me is out! We had a beautiful conversation about living through difficult times and finding community. Thanks so much to James for our time together!

As of today, I'll be switching to BlueSky as my main social media platform; I'll be using my Twitter account strictly for writing updates. If I publish anything new on my Medium or in the literary space, you'll hear it here.

COVID is still in our community & can spread easily, especially during gatherings. Because #COVIDIsAirborne, improving ventilation is important. Good ventilation & meeting up outdoors reduce the risk of spreading COVID. Learn more: go.vic.gov.au/3ZDeRo4

ALT A 5-frame GIF with illustrations and text that reads: “Ventilation is key to helping stay COVID-free. COVID is still in our community & can spread easily. Especially during gatherings. Because COVID is airborne, improving ventilation is important. You can improve ventilation with these simple steps: Let fresh air in, improve airflow, filter the air and... meet outdoors if you can.” Illustrations feature a tall leafy tree growing next to an orange and blue house. There is a breeze flowing through an open window. Three people meeting up outdoors, one is wearing a green hooded sweater, black pants and white sneakers, another is a pregnant woman wearing an orange dress and matching orange sandals and the third person is an elderly woman who uses a wheelchair, wearing a red sweater and waving hello.
It's frustrating when people who OUGHT to be interested in COVID are not.
But millions of people are in this position, all having squabbles of their own. We can't fight them all.

Seeing the misogynistic and racist comments flood @Erdayastronaut's commentary on the Blue Origin livestream of the New Glenn launch just shows how, despite our advancements in technology, society is still stuck in the past.
Honestly what's the point of new rockets when people disparage women engineers as "schoolteachers" and rant about DEI hires? Should we even be in space with our society on earth still stuck in the mire of bigotry and hate?
