We urge everyone to remain vigilant against fake news that has not even the slightest connection to reality. For the past several days, sections of the media have been spreading factually incorrect reports, falsely claiming that certain events took place at meetings attended by Party leaders. Strong legal action will be initiated against such fabricated reports.
It is the Party, not the media, that decides who should assume leadership responsibilities in CPI(M) and how the Party functions. Criticisms raised by Party members, right down to the branch level, regarding the electoral defeat are being carefully examined, and the Party is undertaking the necessary corrective measures. If mistakes are made, the Party has the capacity to criticise and correct any leader. This applies to all leaders, including myself.
At the same time, we are seeking suggestions from the broader public to help address the challenges of the changing times. Tens of thousands of suggestions have already been received from people across society. This reflects the trust and affection that the public continues to place in CPI(M).
It is precisely this process of self-correction and renewal that certain sections of the media are attempting to undermine through a continuous stream of fabricated stories and misinformation.
We appeal to the people to reject these false campaigns and malicious propaganda directed against CPI(M).
