Memo to the media: Please don't say inflation is at a 40-year high without also mentioning that corporate profits are at a 70-year high. Give the people the full picture.

For every woman at the director level who got promoted in 2021, two women directors left. Causes: "work culture, microaggressions and being overworked and under-recognized." 43% of women leaders said they were burned out; 31% of men @bailey_schulz usatoday.com/story/money/202…

It doesn't matter if you are a woman who supports the patriarchy. Men will still interrupt and talk over you.

Lawyer goes into how the computer simulation itself can be biased, and that somehow bothers Alito and Barrett into talking. Barrett started talking first but Alito interrupted her and just kept talking till she stopped.

Despite the name, brain fog isn’t a nebulous umbrella term. It’s a disorder of executive function—the mental skills that inc. focusing attention, holding info in mind, & blocking distractors. Without that foundation, one's cognitive edifice collapses. 3/ theatlantic.com/health/archi…

Update: the red flag warning is lifting and they’re reducing the evacuation to level 1 (ready) for my family’s area of Timberline. Winds could of course change, but for now, so much relief and thanks to the crews out there keeping people and property safe.

Diversity is smarter than homogeneity. New data on 6.6 million science papers in all 45 subfields of medicine: mixed-gender teams generate more novel and influential work than same-gender teams. Similarity breeds groupthink. Variety fuels deeper reflection and broader learning.

Revisiting this golden oldie in honor of all the women out there shuttling, meal planning, coordinating, and cleaning up after everyone else’s holiday today. Thank you for your work. Today and every day.
It’s Labor Day, so here’s a little thread on emotional labor: work that’s done almost exclusively by women and nearly always goes unnoticed. And yes, men do all kinds of labor too. Congratulations. My recognizing that here is emotional labor performed on your behalf. Here we go

Of respondents in a survey 1,986 said they were generally harassment and 358 sexually harassment. I don’t know what those percentages are, but those numbers are way too high. Full stop.

Keep those masks on peeps! It’s now been proven that the air filtration on planes is not as good as most of y’all think.
Boeing study shows that on an airplane with HEPA filtration, particles transferred between a cougher and breather are about the same as separation of 2 meters in a conference room. Wear a mask! youtube.com/watch?v=Pcnwipjk…

“This is the patriarchal vision of privacy: that men have dominion over their wives, children, and households, and the state may not interfere in that private sphere. It's the definition of privacy that dominated American law for two centuries.” 🧵
Yes it's very ironic that everyone is crowing about Brett Kavanaugh's right to privacy right after he stripped women of ours. But it's not new. The idea of domestic & sexual privacy as an exclusively male privilege has a long history in US law culture. jill.substack.com/p/brett-ka…
