Yesterday I contributed to @Jonathan_Hinder Westminster Hall debate on the effectiveness of @PFEW_HQ. I believe it is time to break the monopoly on representation giving police officers greater choice, and I welcome parliamentary scrutiny of s64 of the Police Act 1996.

Not forgetting, of course, that PFEW is also currently resisting a number of Employment Tribunals seeking to deny its own reps the employment rights and protections it says it seeks to gain for the membership.
The federation, in putting forward its legal case resisting the #BreakTheMonopoly judicial review, submitted evidence supporting the current restrictions and advanced arguments as to why the status quo, including restrictions on other employment rights like industrial action/withholding labour, would fundamentally alter the office of Constable and the operational neutrality of policing. Whilst the detailed submissions remain legally privileged for now, once permission is granted and we advance to a full hearing the membership will once again see just how far @PFEW_HQ will go to protect its self and its monopoly at the expense of its membership and their wishes. The betrayal is on a par with the private pension briefings @PFEW_HQ provided the home office during the pension challenge scandal. #BreakTheMonopoly @The_NPA_UK

Can you clarify how many National Council meetings you have taken part in where the question or topic of ‘outing/identifying’ @PFEW_Whistle was raised? Did your branch challenge why the focus was on targeting the whistleblower and not on addressing the issues the account was raising? Did your branch question why members of the National Council/National Board feel safer disclosing information to an anonymous account over internal disclosures to the organisations executive? Has your branch considered - given the clear unlawful actions of your own organisations governance and handling of complaints (@mpfchairman and @Rich_Cooke1 JR) - that it/you lack both the moral and professional authority to meaningfully challenge in this area? #BreakTheMonopoly
Deep Gaps in Misconduct Handling and Support for Officers Who Speak Up. Support for those who report or act as witnesses is also widely seen as inadequate. Forty two per cent of officers believe support is poor, and only 12% think it is handled well. polfed.org/news/latest-news/…

Shift Work induced fatigue is a significant risk factor increasing likelihood of accident and injury – fatigue accounts for up to 20% of serious RTCs on motorways / monotonous roads. Chiefs need to start to treat fatigue as such in order to keep officers and the public safe.

The Government’s suggestion of a 3.5% affordable rise is derisory, when 6.5% rise could only maintain the trend of police pay falling by 0.8% in real terms per year.

Radio interviews ✅ on police pay. @SMFthinktank report says our pay has decreased by 17% in real terms since 2000. Officers are leaving because they need better paid jobs to support their loved ones. We need support from MPs and PCCs @DonnaJonesPCC. #FairPayForPolice

The PFEW is demanding a 17% pay increase for police officers. New data from @SMFthinktank report shows police officer pay in the UK has declined substantially since 2000, lagging behind inflation and other public sector jobs @SuellaBraverman @ukhomeoffice @JMDT999
