On 13–14 May 2026, UNESCO Chairs from across South Asia gathered at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kerala, to review two years of progress, identify joint initiatives and align their work with UNESCO’s regional priorities.
A strategic #partnership has been established between @AMRITAedu & the Indian Sign Language Research And Training Center (ISLRTC) to transform #Deaf#education through AI. Amrita's Dr. Prema Nedungadi & Kumar Raju, Director, @islrtc signed at our Amritapuri Campus.
ALT A strategic partnership has been established between Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and the Indian Sign Language Research And Training Center (ISLRTC) to transform Deaf education through AI. The goal is to move beyond "checklist compliance" and build a future where accessibility is a fundamental right.
The MoU was exchanged between Amrita Professor, Dr. Prema Nedungadi, Associate Dean, School of Computing, and the UNESCO Chair on Assistive Technology in Education, and Shri. Kumar Raju (Director, ISLRTC) at the Amritapuri Campus. The ceremony took place during the International Symposium on AI-Enabled Assistive Technologies, with key representation from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India Empowerment and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
Ms. Manmeet Nanda (Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment) highlighted that Assistive Technology is a constitutional necessity.

With sedentary lifestyles driving chronic diseases worldwide, yoga offers a culturally rooted, scalable strategy that could support global efforts toward World Health Organization and the UN Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being.
The new systematic review and meta-analysis by Rakhi Radhamani and Amrita professor, Dr. Shyam Diwakar, published in Frontiers in Clinical Diabetes and Healthcare, examined whether yoga can help counter the harmful effects of sedentary lifestyles.
The researchers systematically screened 415 scientific studies.
