Full Jensen story on Sega CEO saving Nvidia by turning a $5m contract for Dreamcast development into an equity stake in 1996: “[Sega’s CEO] decided that ‘Jensen was a young man he liked’…and if he would have kept that $5m investment, I think it’d be worth ~$1T today.” (Sega sold the stake at the IPO when Nvidia was worth $300m)
The Jensen Huang Nvidia founding story is very nice. He raised a bunch of money from Sega in order to ship hardware that became the Dreamcast (The GOAT). They messed up in their development and were dead last in Silicon Valley. Jensen needed his last tranche of $5M from Sega or Nvidia would go out of business but he had no path to success. He went to Japan and asked the head of Sega directly to take a chance on him and the head of Sega said "Okay. I like this young kid, Jensen." They structured that $5M as an investment instead of a payment for services and Sega received equity in Nvidia. Sega eventually sold their shares at a $300M valuation, just grateful to get out. If they had held onto their shares they'd be worth a TRILLION dollars today. Jensen survived and the rest is history.

Minecraft exists because I unfairly lost a Java 4K competition. I built a full shmup with multiple enemy types, levels, boss battles, scrolling starfield, high color graphics, etc. Just about every feature you could think of. In 4 kilobytes. Judges said, “This game leaks expertise from its pores!” and “Sweetness. Pure sweetness.” Except for one judge. His computer crashed. He blamed the game and didn’t try it twice. I was knocked from 1st to 27th place. The winner that took my place in 1st? Miners 4K by Markus Persson. These days he’s known as “Notch”

I always wondered about these - and I own them all; but great to know they're really re-rendered! I imagine they must have virtualised the original software stack to use PRMan on newer hardware (?)
Today I learned the original Toy Story used the original project files from 1995 to rerender the entire film to get true 3D when it rereleased in theaters in 2009

With his Special Editions, George Lucas made many changes to the original Star Wars trilogy, and until now, the original theatrical versions have been unavailable. But the British Film Institute is set to show the 1977 theatrical cuts of the film at their upcoming Film on Film Festival. bit.ly/3Gd4NvN

Carefully wording it! (I agree with him as he's inferring there's an optimal staffing size for maximum efficiency however make it faster/easier)

James Cameron says blockbusters can only survive if we "cut the cost in half." As a result, he's seeing how AI might assist "VFX workflow" without "laying off half the staff." “If we want to continue to see the kinds of movies that I’ve always loved and that I like to make and that I will go to see — ‘Dune,’ ‘Dune: Part Two,’ or one of my films or big effects-heavy, CG-heavy films — we’ve got to figure out how to cut the cost of that in half. Now that’s not about laying off half the staff and at the effects company. That’s about doubling their speed to completion on a given shot, so your cadence is faster and your throughput cycle is faster, and artists get to move on and do other cool things and then other cool things, right? That’s my sort of vision for that.” Read more here: variety.com/2025/film/news/j…

Times are changing. Service providers are soon going to have to adapt. Or at least have the ability to generate your own diffusion models. 360 spin (Pixverse) 3DGS (Inria Sibr viewer) Synthetic Human 3DGS SD LORA -> Pixverse 360 -> Metashape -> Postshot -> Inria Sibr (.PLY)

How is it possible that a satirist sitting in the EU Parliament addresses more important issues and speaks more truths than 99% of political leaders? Listen carefully to his words. And ask yourselves why it is not discussed more. AI will cause jobs to disappear. It is not predictable and we need to discuss the consequences now!

I try to do all model reviews in the Vision Pro. There's SO MUCH that can be ascertained in an instant, once you're viewing a model in calibrated stereoscopic (literally only takes a second or two to know whether it's 'right or wrong') This is a great feature to have in Painter!

Nicolas Cage says "protect yourselves from AI." “There is another world that is also disturbing me, and it’s happening right now around all of us — the new AI world. I am a big believer in not letting robots dream for us. Robots cannot reflect the human condition for us. That is a dead end if an actor lets one AI robot manipulate his or her performance even a little bit, an inch will eventually become a mile and all integrity, purity and truth of art will be replaced by financial interests only. We can’t let that happen. The job of all art in my view, film performance included, is to hold a mirror to the external and internal stories of the human condition through the very human thoughtful and emotional process of recreation. A robot can’t do that. If we let robots do that, it will lack all heart and eventually lose edge and turn to mush. There will be no human response to life as we know it. It will be life as robots tell us to know it. I say, protect yourselves from AI interfering with your authentic and honest expressions.” Read more here: variety.com/2025/film/news/n…
