His collaboration with KB gave us some memorable numbers. I love, “azhaithal varuvaaye Sriranjani” from Jaathi Malli.

He has given an amazing playlist in different genres. Aasai 100 vagai Poove ilaya poove Kodai kala katre Oru thanga radhathil O oru thendral Alli thandha boomi Vethalaya potendi... Next to SPB, he has given the most super hits for Rajini.

Today is the 13th anniversary of the passing of Manivannan. A rich body of work as an actor and director. To me, he was the best dialogue writer of his era. By a mile. Gone too soon.

Vietnam Veedu, that powerful tale of a retired man, was written by Sundaram when he was 26. Twenty six. Let that sink in. We do not celebrate our writers enough. @anustylist

“Karuppu” did not work for me at all. There was no tonal consistency in the film. The few genuine emotional moments didn’t work as well as they should have, because of how the film would jarringly shift to a louder pitch. Suriya was all charm and charisma. In a way, he was the reason I didn’t stop watching the film midway. So many talents were wasted, from Swasika to Natty. The fear angle in the second half was such a promising opportunity squandered. As a loyal fan of his, I am very happy that Suriya has tasted bonafide success after a while. But no, this film just didn’t work for me.

Lovely piece, @subhajrao ma’am. The yearning that you wrote about even existed in a slick thriller like Sigappu RojakkaL. That last shot of Kamal was deeply poignant. He rarely lost sight of human emotions even when he went into other zones besides the rural milieu.
In Bharathiraja’s world, love was not just about being together. It lived in the waiting, the silences, the separation, and the longing to belong. From 16 Vayathiniley to Karuthamma, @subhajrao looks at the many shades of yaekkam in his cinema. thenewsminute.com/flix/longi…

The Thevar Magan anecdote was priceless. Terrific piece by Jeyamohan on Bharathiraja.
NEW | Bharathiraja arrived at a moment when Tamil cinema was dominated by theatrical performance and hero worship. His intervention was aesthetic, but it was also democratic. He redistributed attention away from larger-than-life figures. @jeyamohanwriter writes. frontline.thehindu.com/other…

Clearly, I am biased because of my fondness for Vasanth’s work. But his collaboration with Deva has stood the test of time. All three films of theirs - Aasai, Neruku Ner and Appu - had such varied, gorgeous numbers. The accent on melody, even for the peppier numbers, was a true highlight of their collaboration.

Finally, #Valavaara is on @ZEE5India Kannada films have rarely touched upon generational trauma, sibling rivalry, and partiality within a family in a rural setting. ‘Valavaara’ perfectly fills that void. Please do not miss this, at least on OTT thenewsminute.com/flix/why-s…

A man just died and before his ashes could be dissolved, @galattadotcom had to dissect his personal life. He’s dead. Leave them the F alone.

Satyaraj in Vedham Pudhidhu. Given the alignment with his real life beliefs, the conviction in his essay was not a surprise. He was born to play Balu.

I absolutely adore Kane. But in my book, Martin Crowe was peerless as a batsman. Classical, stylish and exciting all at once. Not a bad captain either 😊
Just as the news of Kane Williamson’s retirement is sinking in, i was thinking if he is the best ever New Zealander to play cricket? Who do you think is the best cricketer ever from NZ?
