In the office level of our game Teeto, there's a bunch of screens so we HAD to put our friends games on there... because where would we be without them? @kittywampusgame @AnderssonKev @FourFoxInt @madcarnigames @CrayonixGames @AggroCrabGames @HeadplugGames @rotub @FnifeGames

Popular Upcoming is down the bottom of the front page and a click away. The new calendar is front and center with larger thumbnails aimed at people who like games similar to yours. Looks like a good thing to me

Nobody is talking about the quality of eyes on popular upcoming vs. personal calendar. Is it more worth it to get 3000 WL from popular upcoming, or 300 WL from personal calendar that are curated to your game based on their preferences?
Steam just made a change that's really gonna hurt future indie games. The Popular Upcoming page used to list games chronologically by release time. As long as you had enough wishlists to make the cut (~6k to 7k), you'd get some time at the top of the list for people to discover your game. Now it's listed algorithmically, with far more large games from major companies and publishers on the list, even those releasing two weeks away. The lowest wishlist count on there right now is 80k, when before it would've been 10 indie games as low as 6k wishlists. Feeling very lucky our game's early access release barely made it out before this changed. It was worth probably 1k wishlists for us, and we had some really unfortunate timing/positioning too. It can be worth thousands of wishlists and sales for smaller games. Steam is more heavily prioritizing larger games, with the budget and time to grow to enormous wishlist totals, or the rare indie viral hit. The small to mid-sized games just lost a way to find players. Steam players lost a tool to discover cool smaller games.

Yes, but they added Steam Calendar to recompense. While I'm sad that PU is changed, Calendar gives a longer visibility and allows to check many days ahead so shows more games. We still need to wait for some statistics but steam didn't abandon indies. #Steam

Early evidence is that Steam's new Personal Calendar is WAAAAY better than Popular Upcoming!! Moon River is 2 weeks from launch with ~7000 wishlists. In less than a day after this change, we added >700 wishlists!!
The changes to Popular Upcoming will be felt by small indies. BUT! The new Personal Calendar might be the perfect replacement? It shows up earlier on the page. Is specific to YOUR interests. And let's you easily scrub through future AND PAST releases! Here's hoping it helps 🤞
