According to the 2023 State of #DevOps report, quick code reviews improve software delivery up to 50%. And those lags in reviews? They're more than just delays – they risk burnout! 😰 This got us hunting for a better way... Enter: "Ship, Show, Ask".
Is this okay!? Excited to be speaking at @NDC_Conferences in #Oslo today, where I'll talk about reviewing code for security issues – we'll even look at an example PR together (3pm, room 2) 🔐 #ndcsecurity
🏗️More inventors & thought leaders
Some of my favorite conversations on the show this year were with people like @rouanw & @brendandburns about new ideas and how they've built new software
Folks like @gaya3manoj & @zhamakd would be fantastic guests.

When @DanLinesLB asked @rouanw about how people react to Ship/Show/Ask, Rouan said there are 3 responses ⬇️
👍This is a good idea; I like that we’re not trying to put things into boxes & we can see things will be different for different teams & different code changes

Rules of thumb for when to use Ship/Show/Ask:
• If you are unsure whether a change is safe to ship, ask.
• If you need a reference to a change set, show.
• For all other changes, ship.

Do you struggle to code after a meeting? In the morning? Do you struggle to pay attention to a meeting after a deep work?
We know that context switching is costly but we rarely talk about how we can be more interruptable.
Here's a simple interruptible workflow that you can try:
Our so-called leaders still think they can bargain with physics and negotiate with the laws of nature. They speak to flowers and forests in the language of US dollars and short-term economics. theguardian.com/environment/…
love printers. as all of technology evolves, they take a bold stand and say "no, not only am i not going to improve, i'm not going to even print" and that's the type of product integrity i can get behind

🤔Do PRs make the software industry more inclusive?
👀Why needing every PR reviewed is a trust issue

ALT a debugging manifesto
1. inspect, don't squash
try to fix the bug (crossed out)
understand what happened (yes, smiley faces and stars)
2. check your assumptions
person (thinking): "wait, how do I know that's true?"
3. being stuck is temporary
person (thinking): "I will never figure this out!"
... 2 minutes later....
person (thinking): "well, I haven't tried X..."
4. don't go it alone
person (speaking to other person): "hey, have you seen this problem before?"
5. trust nobody and nothing
person (thinking): this library can't be buggy... OR CAN IT???
6. there's always a reason
computer: "computers are always logical, even when it doesn't feel that way"
7. build your toolkit
person (holding toolkit): "wow, the CSS inspector makes debugging SO MUCH EASIER"
8. it can be an adventure
person (talking, with cute bug next to them): "you wouldn't BELIEVE the weird bug I found"

i'm not typing this out again in tweet form but anyway here's where i'm at with the whole tech thing
ALT series of DMs from me:
the other day i was trying to explain to someone how i felt about tech
and i was like
when i was in college i heard a statistic that more than half of women in STEM leave the field in under 10 years
and i thought, wow that's so sad, but i'm different
and now i'm at year 6
and why are people so sexist and mean and racist in this field holy shit lol
i know there could always be even MORE sexism if i were in law or finance or something, so comparatively it's pretty good
but why am i comparing like, stepping on one poop to potentially like ten poops in other industries
it's all poop
