“I might as well shoot myself in the head as think of negotiating peace.” - Adolf Hitler, 1943 (as quoted in the memoirs of Nicolaus von Below)
JD Vance: If you go back to WW2 or every major conflict in human history, they all ended with some kind of negotiation.
Community note
World War II ended with unconditional surrenders by Germany on May 8, 1945, and Japan on September 2, 1945, rather than negotiation. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unconditi… archives.gov/milestone-docu… nationalww2museum.org/war/topics/end…

#RIP Gene Shalit Hirschfeld drew the cover of Gene Shalit's book Laughing Matters in 1987, featuring a wide range collection of American humor from Mark Twain to Robin Williams. Hirschfeld also drew Shalit with other corespondents of The Today Show in 1981.

“Jim Henson just wanted to be busy making things. That’s what these tools make so available and why they’re so exciting.” Henson was pro-tech, but in a manner that always enhanced human talent. Letting a machine do everything is the opposite of “making things”.

Definitely! Not only was it mocapped using a performance from a legitimate human puppeteer, it solves a practical problem: how do you get a puppet character to perform the same routine every day for hours without causing unnecessarily stress or exhaustion to a human performer?
Replying to @rwmead @Spongey445
He would’ve been all in on that mocap for the Scooter audio-animatronic, though. That looked right up his alley.

Look at stuff like the Waldo that was used to control the heads of full-body characters like the Ninja Turtles and the cast of Dinosaurs or characters smaller than a human like the Doozers from Fraggle Rock! That’s technology working WITH human puppeteering, not in place of it!

I’ve spoken on how people with no connections latch onto brands as a replacement for a parent and/or god, but can we also discuss the unholy amalgamation of Tony the Tiger and Homer Simpson on the TV? The second Jingle All the Way that appears to star Rob Schneider in drag?
It's rare that AI video makes me feel any emotion. But these "nostalgiamaxxing videos" really do capture what it's like to grow up in the 90's Credit: homeforchristmasofficial

sometimes when people talk about alternatives to public school i consider that i was so disconnected from elementary school that i wrote a report about steven spielberg, dressed up as him (this was part of it) and gave a presentation about him but never watched any of his movies

The most interesting thing in them to me so far is that Eric Jacobson and Matt Vogel have been placed in the category of character voiceover performance for the Muppet Show special for no other reason than unlike the Children’s Emmys there isn’t a lot of puppetry in primetime

This reminds me of an anecdote about an Intellivision game about American history that was required to be reprogrammed about Canadian history. As a joke the original Canadian retooling simply added “eh?” to every line of the American one (“Washington crosses the Delaware, eh?”)
The US version of Diddy Kong Racing contains an inaccessible Japanese language setting in the files. If the code is modified to activate it, it is revealed that all it does is replace text with the word "Japanese" in English.

I love the fact that even though he can imagine himself as anyone and anything Snoopy’s fantasies always have some sort of mundane Achilles heel to them. It reminds me of the Simpsons jokes where we see Bart imagining something like getting rich and then losing it all on roulette
