Happy International Day of Mathematics!
Students enjoyed creating maths jokes, a scavenger hunt, decimal place and free hand circle competition, and telling us some Pi facts for a party pie.
TEP Maths Discipline Day. A day of learning, connecting, collaborating and robust discussion. Thank you to the those who participated. A shout out to the panel members: Danijela, Jen and Michael. @maths_vic @VCAAedu @AcademyVIC#TEP23#teachingexcellence#academyvic#MAV#VCAA
Feeling privileged to be part of this program.
Today we listened, thought deeply, collaborated with colleagues and discussed how to improve teaching for all students raise the status of our the profession.
Lots of awesome insights and wonderings to ponder.
Number pattern graph creation. Here we looked at doubling and it made a cardioid graph. We then looked at what happens when we triple, quadruple or quintile!
#Maths300 2 L Balloon Problem. It was so lovely to see the students enjoying and engaged with the maths. We then analysed the diameter vs. volume graph and looked at how the volume of a sphere formula can be derived. Awesome numberphile video - youtube.com/watch?v=2IZh-KIA…
Trialing @pwharris Problem Strings using the skills of simplifying algebraic fractions & solving algebra. Enjoying how it addresses misconceptions from years prior, allowing Ss to go further & understand conceptually what is going on and why. @MathsCirclesOz#mathschat#MTBOZ
Three years ago today, in Jan 2020, 60 teachers, school leaders & academics came together from across Australia to launch @MathsCirclesOz at @UniMelb. ✨
I'd first heard of the MTC model from friend and mathematician @jamestanton when looking for a new project to embark on.

Leading a problem solving workshop for staff this morning. Valuable to be a student with the task, before implementing it in the classroom.

I am thrilled to be teaching a "mathematics in art" enrichment class for 25 minutes each day this quarter at our high school. The only accountability is to the students and their interest level. If you've got interesting ideas/resources, I'd love to hear about them. #mtbos
Love working on the paint cube task led by @CarmenBrading
How many cube have 1 sides painted, 2, 3, 0?
Rich, engaging and accessible to all learners.

Lockdowns are such a tough time for younger ones, particularly teens. Many of you are reaching out for ideas on HOW to best support adolescents over the coming weeks. Here are some ideas, put together with the LEGENDS from @RCHMelbourne & @CforAH. I hope this helps: 🙏 (Thread)
The 'tools' below are part of my current improvement project - 'Quality Writing in Maths' aiming to improve numeracy & literacy outcomes as well as enhance problem solving & reasoning among Ss. My school will use these in starter questions, problem solving lessons & assessments.
Getting excited working on the logistics for our first ever Year 7 maths games day. 318 students, and it appears to be all coming together! 🤞😀#iteachmaths#mtcoz#maths#educhat#MTBoS
