One of the things that may seem like a small thing, but when you consider that our library system has 2.8 million users - making it one of the most well used and celebrated library systems in the world, you start to realize this is a big thing: I was at City Hall when libraries were closed on Sundays due to budget cuts. I found this baffling. We were in the process of building several new libraries, and shortening the hours on the ones we already had. The buildings and the books and the computers and the community resources and the librarians already existed - but we shut down the hours of operation to save a few operating bucks. Seemed so short sighted. So...mean. Well in @MayorOliviaChow's first budget, she's opening libraries on Sundays. And extending hours. The nearly decade-long hiatus is over.
