It is 2024. Roads are a divisive topic, everyone seems to have an opinion on them. We set off many years ago aiming to document the history, and interest, of the British and Irish road networks to share knowledge and understanding for their stories. Would you like to join us?

January 2024's Photo of the Month is the twin Warkworth Bridges in Northumberland, taken by member Big Nick. We run a monthly photo contest where members share their best photos of road scenes - bridges typically do very well, but can you make the mundane become magnificent?

I think, but can't be sure, that the powers that be want you to be aware there is a curve here.

Whilst roads often solicit negative feelings, we are hoping to introduce some positivity and learning about the engineering, the history, and the personal stories that roads create. Why not join us? Our Wiki admins would love to hear from you. sabre-roads.org.uk/wiki

That's an amazing photograph. That just would not fly today as a design!
A new M90 photo, showing the temporary terminus at Junction 8. Check those concrete carriageways! This was built along with the Kinross Bypass in 1971 and was extended north in 1977. #archives #M90 #kinross

2/6 charge - what a fantastic photo.
It's Thursday again which can mean one thing - #carspotting, this time in the 1960s! This image shows the approach to the #ForthRoadBridge shortly after its opening. Your task: 1. On what date did the bridge open? 2. Name as many visible car models as possible. 🌉🚗🚗🚗🚗🚗

This gap in the A259 is peculiar. The A259 of course now runs across this and forms the notoriously bad part of the South Coast Trunk Road. What else can you find in the 1922-23 MoT map series? sabre-roads.org.uk/maps/inde…

This definitely won't cause a few brawls in the comments.
Help us settle a very British debate...what's the best motorway? It wasn't something we thought about until @joelycett recently brought it up with @bushontheradio and @RichieFirth.
