A lovely task from Underground Maths for Highers (Scotland!) linking straight link work and circles, using perpendicular bisectors and circumcenters to find the equations of circles through three points. undergroundmathematics.org/c…
Some lovely takeaways from #mathsjem#na2020maths on teaching quadratics - focusing on solving pure quadratics by inverse operations, gains understanding of rooting and finding two solutions, emphasising zero products, and backwards fading examples to name a few!
The Nat 5 news drained me. Multiple assessments to prepare that parents will insist are ‘too hard’...I couldn’t face work last night, then got up this morning and made a solution sheet for a Don Steward task. Now all’s well with the world.
Great ideas from Richard Butterfield #mathsresiliance for monitoring and developing the maths resilience of our students, will definitely be following this up. Today was another brilliant day of maths CPD from #LaSalle#mathsconf24

Medians, centroids, perpendicular bisectors, circumcenters, altitudes, orthocenters (or circumcenters of the anti-complementary circle)... all a delight and a fascination, but how is finding equations for these lines used outside of the classroom?
Frustrated at not being able to use @ChrisMcGrane84's Starting Points card sort with my on-line classes I have attempted to convert it into a @Desmos activity: m = Tan ø

Now I can watch my students as they sort...
Excellent presentation from @maths180, particularly keeping in mind the difference between arbitrary and necessary aspects of mathematics to ensure we don’t short change our pupils by denying them opportunities to create their own understanding.

Thought provoking session on enhancing performance in Higher Maths by @onycoutts - particularly regarding the importance of insisting on rigour in correct notation and in explanations. #NAMaths1

I’m incredibly sad to hear the news that Don Steward has passed away. What a wonderful man. His brilliant tasks have brought joy to our classrooms for many years. He will be greatly missed by the maths teaching community.
Any one experienced with #diagnosticquestions out there? I'm having problems assigning tests to classes - it says there's a clash... can you not assign the same test to different classes?
If you’re school is closing due to COVID-19 we’d
like to help. We can offer full access to our

Don’t be put off by the subtitle ... I am not arguing against lesson planning - quite the opposite! - but for the bigger picture beyond individual, isolated lessons...
