Grateful to meet with members from the Delta Leadership Institute to discuss workforce development, expanding educational opportunities, and the critical role that investments have played in strengthening the Delta’s economy and future. The Mississippi Delta has incredible potential, and I will continue working alongside these folks to help unlock it.

Two highly contagious viruses are posing a serious threat to farm-raised catfish, and Mississippi’s $196 million catfish industry cannot afford to wait. @SenatorWicker and I joined our colleagues in urging the USDA to act now to prevent these viruses from reaching U.S. waters and devastating one of our most important agricultural industries.

.@SecRollins is exactly right. The Trump admin is championing American cotton farmers and has laid out a bold strategy that supports our growers. This further underscores the need for Congress to pass the Buying American Cotton Act, which would give retailers a meaningful incentive to choose U.S.-grown cotton. That means better, more affordable, American-grown products for consumers at home and greater demand for American cotton around the world. foxnews.com/opinion/sec-broo…

Happy Birthday, @POTUS! I’m grateful for the strong partnership we’ve built to deliver real results for Mississippi and the American people. From providing meaningful tax relief through the Working Families Tax Cut Act to securing our border and advancing policies that put Americans first, we’ve accomplished a great deal together. Wishing you a wonderful birthday and many more victories for our great nation in the years ahead.

Today we mark two proud American traditions – Flag Day, and the @USArmy's 251st Birthday. The same flag that flew when the Army was founded still waves today, and that is a testament to the generations of soldiers who have kept it flying. We are grateful to every soldier who has worn the uniform and those wearing it now.

It was an honor to meet with William Lafitte of Laurel, Mississippi, who was in D.C. this week for the Paralyzed Veterans of America’s Advocacy Legislative Seminar. Our veterans made extraordinary sacrifices to protect our freedoms, and I am grateful for the opportunity to hear directly from William about how we can best serve those who have served our nation. Mississippi is proud of its veterans, and I will always fight to ensure their voices are heard in Washington.

I’m glad that the Senate passed bipartisan legislation I cosponsored to crack down on contraband cellphones in federal penalties – upgrading the penalty from a misdemeanor to a felony. Inmates use these phones to run drug operations, order hits, and traffic people. It’s past time the federal law reflects the seriousness of these threats, and I urge the House to pass it and get it to President Trump’s desk.

Hats off to DeSoto County Sheriff Tuggle on being named a Hometown Hero by U.S. Attorney Scott Leary! Sheriff Tuggle’s commitment to building strong community partnerships has made DeSoto County safer and set a model for law enforcement across Mississippi and the nation. This is a well-deserved honor and a testament to his and his team’s outstanding work. desototimes.com/news/sheriff…

Community colleges are often the front door to careers in agriculture, especially in rural states like Mississippi, but they have long been left behind when it comes to federal ag funding. That’s why I joined colleagues to reintroduce the Community College Agriculture Advancement Act, a smart, practical investment to level the playing field and give these institutions access to resources that are often out of reach.

Seersucker Thursday is one of the Senate’s finest traditions, and my team and I were proud to join in carrying it on today (even Terry the dog got the memo!). Started by former Mississippi Senator Trent Lott, this tradition brings a little Southern style and history to the halls of Congress. And as we celebrate, we’re also reminded that seersucker begins with a product grown by hardworking American cotton farmers. I’m proud to champion the Buying American Cotton Act and policies that strengthen our domestic textile industry while backing the farmers who help clothe America.

It’s always a pleasure to meet with folks in Mississippi’s small business community, which tells the real story of our state’s economy. Thank you to Karen Stanley, owner of neonFROG in Columbus, and Margaret Remy, owner of Quick Prints in Meridian, for taking the time to visit. Thank you also to all the manufacturers, retailers, farmers, and service providers who keep our communities moving. These voices matter in Washington and I’m proud to champion them!

Mississippians have shared their stories with me about the stress caused by rising insulin prices. When patients are forced to ration dosages, it often leads to hospitalizations and serious complications that are dangerous, strain family budgets, and cost taxpayers. I’m proud to cosponsor the bipartisan INSULIN Act to cap out-of-pocket insulin costs at $35 a month and make this lifesaving medicine more accessible for every Mississippian and American who needs it. semafor.com/article/06/10/20…
