Ryokutei Senryū's 1853 (Ka'ei 嘉永 5) collection includes just 15 women poets--probably no surprise to folks familiar with the Edo period, but still a very low number. The medieval classic _Ogura hyakunin isshu_ 『小倉百人一首』has 21, after all x.com/sforrest/status/182986… #366in24

Chitose is described as a courtesan (yūjo 遊女) rather than a poet, but her skill as a calligrapher is mentioned in the biographical note. Chitose also appears in this scene from an 1817 gōkan by Shikitei Sanba, but her historicity is not certain. Lots to research! #366in24
