It's been a week since we were treated to PSG vs Bayern Munich: a game that well deserved the amount of ink spilt about it in the interim. I've not really made any comment on the out of possession (OOP) aspect because I wanted time to collect my thoughts but here are some:

My two cents: Arsenal are simply doing what they’re allowed to get away with and it is very impressive how they’ve maximised a part of the game, props to them. Officiating however is too skewed in favour of the attacking side, defenders are too disadvantaged at corners. The risk of open play football (vs set plays) is too high to warrant risk taking in open play if you are so good at scoring from set plays, especially when the sport is so low scoring. This risks making the product of football more ‘boring’ or risk averse in open play as you can win (or at least score first) in a more safe and reliable way (set plays).

I feel like FAR too many blatant fouls from set-pieces are overlooked in the Prem. The officiating is a huge enabler for this set-piece meta. Awful for the game imo.

Completely neutral here, but Spurs having a derby equaliser ruled out for a phantom push, then conceding a goal from a similar occurrence a week later is everything wrong with premier league officiating.

Remember that I predicted a long time ago that President Obama will attack Iran because of his inability to negotiate properly-not skilled!

No matter what anyone says or does, the improvement in our team play and ball control goes a long way back to Amorim. Even if things didn’t fully work out, we clearly saw the system he implemented. Imagine Maguire now knowing how to hold the ball under pressure instead of rushing to just boot it away. The one-twos you’re seeing Cunha Bruno Cunha Bruno and Dorgu Bruno Dorgu Bruno that’s all his work. I’ll always be grateful to him for that foundation. This team only needs three or four more signings, and people will finally understand what a massive job Amorim did. That said, Carrick has surprised everyone including me. I never thought he’d beat Manchester City and Arsenal back to back. That’s not something you do easily. Kudos to him.
