Good news for loblolly pine growers in the South! We incorporated host genotype and climate to enhance risk assessment for fusiform rust and were able to explain up to 93% of the deviance for disease incidence!! 😎😁 Another great paper from my former PhD student @simonelimhing .

Reports are confirming 80 dead, so far, and the @nytimes is reporting that a white settler couple successfully recovered a ROLEX watch from their Lāhainā home.
On Friday, Elicia Stratton searched desperately through the wreckage of her Lahaina home for the Rolex watch her parents gave her when she graduated college. Suddenly, her fiancé pulled it from the ashes. “You found it!” she said, choking up. It was damaged but still legible.

Last month, @simonelimhing and I had the great pleasure of working with @c4tier and Dr. Janice Cooke at the University of Alberta. We chipped in a small piece to our hosts' great body of work dedicated to protecting lodgepole pine.

What's behind these bumps on American beech? A @UGAWarnell undergraduate in @LabVillari and I are working to recreate this weird phenomenon and identify the cause!

Personal statements ask us to open up about our journey only to later use our experiences as weak points to justify our exclusion. When we share our confidence in ourselves it's painted as cockiness and pride. When we share our struggles we are blamed for them. How do we win?

Hard to overstate how much worse things are going to get in a country where the population is armed to the teeth then conditioned to live in a constant paranoid state of fear.

🌳🍄🌲 YES! It’s possible to detect AM and EcM plant species from spectra! NO! It’s not due to differences in mycorrhizal type but evolutionary history! Check out more: doi.org/10.1111/nph.18902 Thorough work by Johanna Jantzen and @CABO_science

Not sure how to express how important Sammy was to the community & what a joy she was to be around. We drove up to UF to meet Jane Goodall in 2015 & she taught me how to be confident in such an intimidating environment. I'm so happy to have met her. May she rest in peace.
It is with utmost sorrow and heavy hearts to announce the passing of our President and Co-Founder of BlackinChem, Samantha “Sammy” Mensah. She was a phenomenal activist, leader, inventor, science communicator. and a doctoral candidate in chemistry at UCLA. (1/3)
