All the tickets have gone for my inaugural lecture tomorrow, on the Creed in music, but there may be some returns. If you’d like to come, check on the booking site to see if any have been released.
My inaugural lecture as @UniofOxford Regius Professor of Divinity will be on "The Creed in Music": 5pm, 15 June 2026, in the auditorium of the new Schwarzman Centre. The renowned choir of @ChChCathedralOx will sing two creed settings and provide musical illustrations throughout.
Morning all.
I think with the Defence Secretary and Armed Forces Minister resigning yesterday, this clip from Yes Prime Minister is very apt.
Enjoy.🤣🤣🤣🤣
ALT A prayer for the World Cup
God of glory,
as the world gathers
to celebrate the beautiful game,
we pray for a harmonious and joyous World Cup.
Bring safety and security
for players and officials on the pitch,
fans in the stands, and spectators at home.
May we see and celebrate the hand of God
in the creativity of every curving free kick,
silky pass or impossible save.
May we have compassion and perspective
on the miskicks, missed penalties,
and muddled VARs.
Every winning team needs a losing team
– even if you were the better team.
Let the journey to World Cup glory
be not only for the nation that wins.
May we see something more
of the world you want us to be:
a gathering of every nation
and people who share your glory.
Amen.
The National Safeguarding Team of the @churchofengland has launched a consultation to broaden the definition of safeguarding.

There's an excellent thread on this from @OSacrumCorIesu well worth reading.
FWIW - Here's another!
tl;dr - it's Humpty-Dumpty

As a survivor & campaigner who's faced down much quiet CofE corruption .... I agree. Safeguarding becomes meaningless if it's so ill defined and omni-directional. That way leads to the politicization of s/g which we've seen in some diocesan extremes.
The Revd Dr Andrew Bowyer, Dean of Divinity at Magdalen College, Oxford will become Master of the Temple at the Temple Church in London, after the retirement of the Revd Dr Robin Griffith-Jones. For more information click loom.ly/j-LWoz4
Today, the Campaign has published an open letter to @Heidi_Labour regarding the news that the HS2 train fleet contract is to be reviewed.
The opportunity to apply 8 years of learning on accessibility since the trains were originally specified MUST be taken.

We urge the Secretary of State to take the opportunity to re-evaluate the provision of level boarding on the High Speed 2 train fleet, and to involve the Campaign in this process.
This is incredibly important and Angela’s thread explains why. The Charity Commission is trying to move safeguarding from being laser-focused on children and vulnerable adults to being about everyone at all times. It will ow safeguarding in the CofE up completely.
The Church of England National Safeguarding Team is consulting on proposed changes to its safeguarding definitions and processes. The consultation closes on 12 June.
