This is an oversimplification. Apple’s “regulatory issues” in the EU aren’t the same as in China. It's not simply "the same reasons"
In China they quietly moved iCloud data (photos, messages, etc.) to state-owned servers, stored keys locally, and gave govt-linked entities access and absolutely no public privacy panic, just compliance for market access.
In the EU they fight DMA rules that would let users choose better AI without forcing it on anyone, claiming massive privacy risks (while proposing mitigations).
Double standard. Privacy principles seem flexible depending on the regime and profit motive. 💀
The important details:
- Siri AI for developers in English today; all users later this year in beta.
- Siri AI is NOT yet coming to the EU given the regulatory issues there.
- Siri AI and new Apple Intelligence features are also not yet coming to China for similar reasons.
