Why is it that we are so drawn to monocausal explanations of complex social phenomena?

we need to normalize small talk that just opens with “so what’s your deal,” which is the one true question.

My hot take is that most of us have not adequately processed the trauma of the pandemic. And our sprawling, unprocessed trauma chews away at our brains in myriad ways that make us anxious about why we can’t seem to live our lives as instinctively or as joyously as we did in 2019.

Are you “burned out” or are you having a reasonable reaction to a never-ending barrage of bad news which you can do very little about.

I’m just curious why it’s age appropriate for kids k-5 to learn about hiding under desks and not that sometimes people have two dads.

Important thread below for anyone that needs a refresher in European history or anyone that hasn’t quite managed to grasp the magnitude of what’s happening. It’s way deeper than race.

I wish we would all start say covid ‘protections’ instead of ‘restrictions’. It’s ultimately protections being lifted. Words matter, and I wonder how things may be different if we’d got this right at the start.

An under-discussed effect of COVID is how we kind of lost casual friends. The incidental buddies you ran into at a BBQ, holiday party or softball game- just rapture-like disappeared. Now everyone you talk to is either coworker or 1 of the 5 most important people you've ever known

In a society where Asian women experience perpetual erasure, minimization, and invalidation, please remember that whatever you’re feeling is valid and real. Whatever needs you have to feel safe are important and urgent. Please create space to check in with yourself.

It's true that we all have 24 hours each day, but each person has different pressures. In Queer Eye, Bobby has 24 hours to renovate a 5 bedroom house. Antoni has 24 hours to throw together a cute lil salad.

The healthcare system is not a religion. You don’t have “hope” and “faith” and “belief” in it. You fund it. You put money into staffing it adequately.
