The 26/11 terrorist attacks shook the entire nation to its core — a day when countless people lost their loved ones.
That horrific attack claimed over 150 innocent lives. But amidst the chaos, some brave hearts stood tall against terror. One of them was Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan.
Fighting valiantly to save lives, Major Unnikrishnan made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.
As part of Operation Black Tornado launched by the 51 Special Action Groups to neutralise the terrorists, Major Unnikrishnan led a team of 10 commandos.
On November 28, 2008, the team risked their lives to enter the Taj Hotel. They risked their lives to rescue hostages, including women trapped in a room.
While clearing the area, Major Unnikrishnan’s teammate, Sunil Yadav, was shot. Without hesitation, Major Unnikrishnan ensured his evacuation to safety.
As he moved to the second floor, a bullet struck him in the back. Despite the injury, his only words to his team were: "Don't come upstairs, I will handle them."
Gunfire rang out from both sides until an abrupt silence fell. The operation was successful, but tears filled the eyes of his comrades.
Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan sacrificed his life for the mission, leaving behind a legacy of unparalleled courage and selflessness.
