📌 Listening for a pin drop? You might not hear it in educator @howie_hua's classroom – and that's a good thing!

🔎 This approach doesn't just ask Ss to pay close attention to the reading – it also invites them to notice their own thoughts and observations! Via T @TheLiteracyDive

A little “back to school” reminder. We wish we could “just teach.” But schools and staff are expected to do such more, and we do it because we care—and it’s necessary.

1st week of school: got to know my muggle (& some mudblood) Ss via Station Rotation (house sorting quiz, learning styles, & mugshots). I also learned about our Ss & their neighborhoods in math support. We went outside to build human bridges using sliders & marbles. #ReadyForWeek2

#MathMagical classroom set up for this school year's theme is 85% finished. Just need to finish the Owlery, classroom expectation decree, and Quidditch goals. I will need to take down hanging keys and move them somewhere else

During the last week of school, I had some students ask me if I had any coloring pages they could have. I didn't, but I did add "make mathematical coloring pages" to my to do list for this summer! mathequalslove.net/geometric… #mtbos #iteachmath

End of the semester shopping percent project helps Ss apply their math in the real world, esp. when they're the store owner designing sales ads for their products. bit.ly/ShopPercentProject Double number lines truly helped students visualize % and $ they are taking off of original.

After a week of composite figures, Ss are more able to find the surface area of 3D solids. 6th graders claim that today was easy! We did a "figure talk" today &, in 10 mins, Ss named over 40 shapes & figures. I shared what they called "sandwich" figures is triangular prism. #math

Adopted this school of fish from a friend who is moving out of state, and brought them into our Disney themed classroom. Students are excited to take care of these little Mickey Mouse Platy. So appropriately named for our classroom theme this year and definitely meant to be here!

Today in #7thGradeMath, we used the jigsaw method to divide and conquer each review problem about the Circle's area and circumference, then student groups presented the one problem they solved as a team to the class. Yes, we must "presentate" in #Math as students put it. 🥲

MLR3: Critique, Correct, & Clarify (2.0) w/ sentence stems, which greatly helped students (Ss) explicitly write out their math thinking & justifications. Additionally, #MLR3 helped Math Support Ss explain to one another before presenting their team's fianlized error analysis.
