Now this new PET scan study proves it’s still there at 2 YEARS and counting. Nebraska can’t catch a break: The Pressey Fire in Custer county has grown overnight to 10,000 acres. The fire was active all evening. The National Guard has been ordered and they are sending two Nebraska Air National Guard Black Hawk helicopters and a National Guard Handcrew. The fire is burning in the Pressey State Wildlife Management Area, and quickly grew with critical fire conditions. The fire remains 0% contained. As the sun sets, major fires are occurring across the #Southeast U.S., sparking a state of emergency for the state of #Georgia. Yesterday, 47 homes were lost in south Georgia when one fire grew by 10,000 acres. Why so many fires? The area is experiencing Exceptional (D4) drought and 1-h dead fuel moistures are approaching 6% in that part of south Georgia. Minimum relative humidity in the area got down into the 20's today. This could be a glimpse of the region's future, as some modeling studies project that acres burned in this region will increase substantially in the coming decades.
