5th Year @StOliversCC students learning about all things spud related with Maria @BallymakennyF with some regenerative ag thrown in! We even left with samples of the now famous Violetta Red Emmalie and Dunbarr potatoes. There's no better example of a niche ag market anywhere.

Variety mixtures made it into the Irish @FarmersJournal Crop Protection Magazine 👍🏻🇮🇪. Nice to see diversity in topics (even if a Marmite one!) and to write as 100% Irish with a UK perspective on things 👩‍🌾👩‍🔬 farmersjournal.ie/mixing-var…

It's a bit early in the morning for me to list why this table of data is a must for the ag science classroom, but it definitely is....
Interesting to compare the emissions of large Irish facilities with dairy cows using Climate TRACE data. In 2021 the top 7 facilities in Ireland emitted as much as 70% of the total dairy cows in Ireland. Reinforces why we need a balanced debate in this area.

A potential area of questioning for the 2023 Ag paper perhaps ...the theme of the brief is nutrition....

A birds-eye view of the young, diverse, #shelterbelt and #hedgerow at the top of the farm in all their #autumn glory🍁🍃🍂 It’s taken less than 10 years for the 10,000 tiny #nativesaplings that were planted to become a beautiful small #woodland. 1/2 #realfarmed #naturalborder

Taking the Monday out of Monday morning. Thanks @soccagscience for bringing this great bunch of 5th Yr Ag students from @StOliversCC to the farm. They've just finished their "potato" module, so lots to talk about. Nothing wrong with a bit of alternative thinking😆 #purplepotatoes

Linking soil strand with cross cutting theme of nutrition. Subject of a short question on the 2022 paper. Also an avenue for current 5th year brief on natural resources.

5th year students given a white board, marker & pipe cleaners to represent chromosomes. They had to model each stage of mitosis. This group in particular enjoy activities. Pipe cleaners make them mimic movement and separation. Surprisingly effective at uncovering misconceptions.

Nutrition. @BCCNSscience @AgMullen @Sligorobotman @SCaherly....this years brief and paper
Here we go see how we get on with this hearing great reviews about it. Trying to be proactive rather than reactive with having to keep all the calves this year. Got great advice and general chat with @tommythevet much appreciated.

Animal welfare, technology in Ag, health and safety, great photo for students. Super Tweet, keep them coming for the non farming Ag students out there! 🐄🐑
Head scoop has to be the single best thing we have ever bought for the farm. Was about €670 two years ago, by the time VAT and grant got back I think it cost about €200. Don't know how we ever dosed/injected cattle without it.

Second stop for 6th year @StOliversCC ag science students was @BallymakennyF where Marie explained the challenges and rewards of niche maekets and artisan produce. Check out the video of the biodiversity buffer zone...listen to the pollinators. Amazing stuff.
