You want better refs? Someone will try reffing at grassroots and immediately think f**k that. Why? Because of the abuse. Why is there abuse? Because participants see it happen at the top and think it's normal behaviour. Want better refs? Shut up then.

During the Qatar vs. Switzerland match in the San Francisco Bay Area, a brief technical outage prevented the onside animation graphic from being generated ahead of the penalty awarded to Switzerland in the 14th minute. The issue was quickly resolved.
The workflow of the VAR was not affected by this issue and followed the normal procedure in checking the on-field decision. The lines used by the VAR to check the position of the relevant players did not show the attacking player to be in an offside position in either of the two situations immediately before the penalty decision.

FIFA are using the argument that the referee training is in Miami and as he can't attend, he can't referee in other countries. Do they know how ridiculous that sounds? An organisation the size of FIFA can't adapt? They don't want to adapt because of the Trump love in.
This World Cup is also being played in Mexico and Canada. Assuming he would be allowed to enter(?), FIFA could surely at least make a point of him refereeing games there.

Weird things about the new rules:
- Time waste at goal kick = corner
but time waste at corner = ๐จ
- VAR can overturn a decision for a corner, however VAR cannot overturn a decision for a goal kick.
- VAR can recommend overturning a 2nd yellow, but it cannot recommend for one.
