Today, I had the honour of holding a productive bilateral meeting with my Serbian counterpart, Honourable Zoran Gajiฤ, Minister of Sport of the Republic of Serbia, in Belgrade, Serbia, as part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation between Botswana and Serbia in the area of sport development.
Our discussions focused on identifying strategic opportunities for mutual collaboration and shared growth within the sport sector. Key areas of engagement included school sport development, sport science, exchange programmes, scholarships for athletes, coaches and sport administrators, as well as capacity building initiatives aimed at enhancing the professionalisation of sport in our respective countries.
We both acknowledged the critical role that international partnerships play in advancing sport excellence, fostering youth empowerment, and promoting social development through sport and recreation. In this regard, Botswana and Serbia have agreed to work towards the development of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will formalize and guide cooperation between our two nations in the field of sport.
This engagement marks another important milestone in Botswanaโs commitment to strengthening international relations and creating meaningful opportunities that contribute to the growth and transformation of our sport sector.
I was accompanied by the Chief Executive Officer of the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC), Ministry officials, and BNSC management. Our delegation is in Belgrade at the invitation and generous support of the Ministry of Sport of Serbia.
