You know that hose they advertise on TV? It’s expandable then retracts to the same small size. Never leaks they say no leaks. Not true not true. I had a leak taped it up. There’s a new leak today. Just thought I’d let you know.
Attention NJ journalists: Got a great idea for an investigation but aren't sure how to land it — or to pay for all those records requests?
I'm helping my friends at @CenterCoopMedia select a few local newsrooms to receive training, support and funding 💰 for investigative work.
📷 New initiative aims to strengthen investigative reporting in local newsrooms

This week, had a post-primary chat with Democratic New Jersey governor nominee Mikie Sherrill for the What Makes Jersey Run newsletter. Topics: Murphy, Mamdi, taxes, the Jets.

ICYMI amid all the Jersey chaos: We interviewed brought all 11 gubernatorial candidates into our office to speak on camera about where they stand on big policy issues — and Garden State cultural debates … nj.com/politics/2025/05/watc…
I did not cry immediately when I learned my good friend Matt Arco had died because it takes time for these things to sink in, but when I thought about my colleagues having to write Matt's obit I finally wept. RIP. nj.com/politics/2025/05/long…
If Matt had a catchphrase, it was probably "Hey, asshole." He may have used it in anger, but it was mostly a term of endearment. "Hey asshole, lunch?"
"Hey asshole -- you got so-and-so's number?"
"Hey asshole -- post more pictures of the baby."
So long, asshole. 💔
One of the many things I dislike about these pseudo-news sites is the only thing good about them are the names. The Jersey Dispatch is great branding for a pile of dog shit and now that name is off the table for someone who could have used it to cyber bully their mayor.
A quick note: Today is my last day of work for a few months. In October, we welcomed my daughter, Ginny, and in the months since she has only grown larger and more powerful so I gotta step in until we can get a handle on this situation. See you in the summer!
ANOTHER BIG GANNETT WIN: @therecordguild has won a historic first contract, lifting long-stagnant wages by over 25% on average, and averting a planned walkout. More here....

new for @njdotcom, @CommutingLarry and I spent Friday speaking with national and NJ experts about the future of I-80 after 3 sinkholes. We heard from locals too. Pop’s Bagel Shop has lost 30-40% of its business since Feb. There’s “no sinkhole stimulus.”

@stevenrodasnj spent more than a year tracing the history of the beaver in #NewJersey and focused on one small suburban town and its problem with the rodents. Here’s the video with @spsullivan that was part of the project. projects.nj.com/beavers/
