What really baffles me about the UPND is that they never needed to go as far as they did in dismantling the opposition. Even with Lungu back in active politics, there was no political threat that justified actively sponsoring divisions, internal wrangles, and fragmentation within opposition parties. The reality is that the 2026 election has always largely been in HH’s favour. What has failed Zambia’s democracy is that the opposition has struggled to present a strong, united, and credible alternative. That alone already gave UPND a significant advantage. Which is why it becomes difficult to understand why it appeared that so much effort was directed towards weakening the opposition further instead of allowing healthy democratic competition to exist. A strong democracy is built not only on a strong ruling party, but also on a functional and independent opposition that can challenge ideas, hold government accountable, and give citizens real political choices. #Zambia #2026Elections

THE LUSAKA MAYORAL RACE….. Out of all the candidates in the Lusaka mayoral race, Chitambala Mwewa appears to be the best fit for the job. Beyond the vlogging and online antics, he has consistently demonstrated practical ideas and workable solutions on how Lusaka City Council can operate more efficiently and deliver better services to the people. What will matter most, however, is the team around him. Changing the rot at LCC will require competent people who share the same vision, understand the city’s challenges, and are committed to execution rather than politics. Leadership alone is not enough without a strong system behind it as many here have stated. The biggest obstacle he is likely to face is the bureaucracy and entrenched systems that often slow down progress. Navigating that environment will require a radical approach that will foster cooperation across different LCC structures. If Lusaka is going to become a cleaner, more organised, and functional city, we need to move away from politics-driven governance and focus more on practical leadership, accountability, and service delivery. #Lusaka #Zambia
