I am extraordinarily proud of @natoshabenning for completing her UX Course (including UI specialty) through @careerfoundry! It's been a long, pandemic-slogged road; her perseverence to make this happen while trying to educate a child at home and run our house is extraordinary.
Thank you to @RyanMattheyNews for allowing me to spread word about the effects UNLV's mass shooting may have had on people based on our 1 October study. Emotions are likely to be jangled for the next few weeks to months; please let survivors connect. 8newsnow.com/news/local-news…
We are currently looking to examine how the community's reaction to December 6 compares to 1 October and figure out what needs might be present over the next year. Our study is located at unlvstrong.peplab.org & is open to members of the UNLV and broader Las Vegas communities.
Tune in for an evening of insight, solidarity, and community strength. Guests include News 3’s reporter @brettforrest89, Nevada Current’s @DanaGentryLV, Vegas Strong Resiliency Center’s Director Tennille Pereira and UNLV Assoc. Professor @stephenbenning. #NevadaWeek#UNLVstrong
.@unlv officials identify the heroic officers who took down the shooter. We also hear from friends and colleagues of the 3 victims who were remembered for their passion for their students and families.

Thank you @Amber_R_Dixon for hosting us. I wish I could say these are unprecedented times. But for Las Vegas, they're not. This is the second mass shooting since I've been here, the first on our campus. Here's what I expect for our community from our Route 91 shooting study. 1/

Criticism will amplify people's distress within 1.5 months, and support will increase their well-being in the same timeframe. Conversely, criticism will wear down people's well-being after 6 months, whereas support will reduce their symptoms in the same timeframe. 6/
Will things be the same after this shooting as the last? I don't know. Certain cultural factors likely will be; I don't know whether the psychological effects will be similar. More work needs to be done in this area across disciplines to foster healing. 7/7
I've sent out about 2600 codes for B l u e S k y to members of the chronic illness and disability communities. Because requests have slowed and I have lots of donated codes, I've shut down donations for now. Please spread the word that codes are available. forms.gle/A1LD3zTsZBjCQXAL9

What does it mean to be mean? My coauthors and I sought to answer this question by developing a measure of meanness in psychopathy from the ground up that does not ask people about the mean acts they've committed. 🧵 below, preprint here: (1/9) doi.org/10.31234/osf.io/8qbg…
Importantly, our meanness measure was an incrementally valid predictor of nearly all variables beyond TriPM Meanness. The only time TriPM Meanness was consistently incrementally valid over our meanness factors was in predicting antisocial behavior and empathy for pain. (8/9)
If you'd like to use this measure in your own work, it's available at osf.io/sxebd/ - we have 300 item (long form) and 90 item (short form) versions with embedded validity scales, along with a standalone 26 item version. We hope it works well for you! (9/9)
