It's shocking to lose in one day so many of the best international reporters I've ever worked alongside, whose investigations into Israeli conduct in Gaza merited Pulitzer finalist recognition just last year. There aren't many newsrooms left in the world where visual and forensic investigations can be paired with on the ground reporters who can access vast networks of sources and knowledge. Louisa and the rest of the Middle East team are one of a kind.
Heartbroken to have been laid off by The Washington Post today. It has been the honour of a lifetime to work with these colleagues for a decade, from Damascus to Baghdad, Derna to to Bakhmut. I am proud of our work. Thank you, everyone.
