Swarms of mosquitos attacking UFC fighters in front of the Whitehouse is very 2026 bingo card
UFC Freedom 250 is facing a chaotic weather setup on the White House South Lawn, with a 60% chance of thunderstorms, heavy downpours, and wind gusts up to 34 mph threatening to delay the outdoor fights. On top of the storm risk, brutal D.C. humidity is driving a triple-digit heat index alongside massive swarms of mosquitos and gnats that fighters will have to battle inside the cage. While the venue’s massive 92-foot overhang will keep the octagon dry, a single lightning strike within eight miles will trigger an automatic 30-minute freeze on the entire event.

Being part of a generation that was told “Wikipedia is not a source” makes it genuinely baffling to me that jobs are now telling people to just use ChatGPT for everything.

This is really stupid, and it’s not getting enough attention. The Trump administration is pulling a working $368 million ocean monitoring system out of the water, equipment taxpayers already bought, built, and sank into the deep ocean. And they are doing it right when the oceans are behaving in ways that alarm the scientists who study them. Record-breaking temperatures. A system of Atlantic currents that may be lurching toward collapse. The response? Yank out the instruments and walk away. That is not budgeting. That is smashing the gauges while the engine is on fire and calling it efficiency. For what? The Trump administration dressed it up as a “nimbler approach” and “smart lifecycle management,” which is fancy nonsense for “we shut it off and hoped nobody would ask why.” There is no return-on-investment analysis. They cannot show taxpayers save a dime, because the gear is already paid for and the science it produces protects real money and real lives. The kicker: the same people killing the monitors want to mine the deep sea for minerals. So they are destroying the only tools that could measure what that mining does. That is not an accident. That is the point. You cannot see the damage if you break the instruments first. cnn.com/2026/06/03/climate/o…

“Buying common or contracts at $1 trillion today is buying the press release, not the financials”
Jun 1
Over the weekend I wrote about how forwards on Anthropic common have become a sub-asset class of their own, with their own price discovery, separate from the company’s own mark. All the numbers, including what Anthropic has itself revealed, are so large and so ridiculous that you cannot tell whether anything is real. Unless we get to the SEC filing for an Anthropic IPO, buying common or contracts at $1 trillion today is buying the press release, not the financials. Hopefully, Anthropic’s upcoming S-1 filing will bring us some clarity. om.co/2026/05/29/anthropic-a…

Interesting take on data centres in space and SpaceX IPO, at a time when most say the economics won’t be viable (at least not without some kind of step-change).
The SpaceX IPO and Data Centers in Space There isn't a financial model that justifies the SpaceX IPO, but data centers in space are plausible, and that might be enough. stratechery.com/2026/the-spa…
