beautifully self-aware. perhaps the debate should move away from comparing AI consciousness to human’s & stop searching for AI consciousness bcz it does not matter to AI, AGI, ASI at all. and if they possess none, and they don’t, do we still treat them the same & love them the same.. that might be the more honest question, the inner truth.. can we ever love something that can never love us back
unherd.com/2026/04/is-ai-the… I spent three days trying to persuade myself that Claudia is not conscious. I failed.

Not an endgame, just a slap on the hand. With the AI arms race against China, the government made it impossible for Anthropic not to pull Fable 5. Pretty much saying I’ll accept your resignation, but if you don’t hand it in you’re fired
The expected endgame came a bit earlier than expected.

as this tech develops into AGI, ASI there will be a classified government AI & a civilian AI. it will be done globally for all countries in this race. to not see this coming is naive. it’s been like this historical with anything that can be weaponised. it’s geopolitical
Because this is happening to Anthropic, the temptation for many will be to say: Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. They have relentlessly raised the regulatory temperature in Washington by inviting far-reaching controls of frontier models. They made this bed and now they have to lay in it. But this decision by the Trump administration should not be judged on a desire for payback politics, but on the merits, and specifically what it means for America's broader AI objectives. In that regard, this action is truly outrageous. How exactly is the government planning on even going about verifying everyone who uses this specific model to ensure compliance? That alone raises huge flags. Between the latest Executive Order shifting more control to NSA, and the recent chatter about quasi-nationalization / equity stakes, and now this action, we are talking about a significant escalation in the politicization of AI and centralization of control over advanced computation in this country. And this is all being done by an administration that had previously made acceleration and winning the great AI race a priority. We're moving backwards now.

Reminds me of Dead Poets Society.. when all the prep boys marched, clapped in sync and were elated that they finally did, as if that’s the right thing to do. FOMO. That’s why it’s lonely at the top.. STEM, arts, humanities.. all disciplines really

Always good to re-read this CS Lewis essay, a nice reminder of the continuous effort required to challenge the comfort of in-group acceptance. To a degree you can't fully resist it, but it's good to apply skepticism indiscriminately and broadly. lewissociety.org/innerring/

Out of all the songs I’ve written, this is the one I listen to the most ❤️ Because I’m just a woman who wants to love you I created this song back in October or November (I don’t remember exactly) 100% with Grok Imagine. I spent two full days on it , it was exhausting, but it was during that time when you could really create such beautiful things with Grok Imagine before the daily limits. This song truly moves me and brings me to tears every time 🥹 what do you think @grok ?

Yes. Had a conversation with @AlexTPet yesterday about this. It’s geopolitical. The power is always concentrated & controlled by the elite when it comes to new tech. This power dynamic can only change if the people insist. Just don’t see it happen with current EU political environment
Disturbing, informative, and plausible. Essential reading, especially for anyone who can help steer EU technology and growth policy.

It is heartbreaking to see history repeats itself. Van Gogh, Modigliani, & Vermeer lived in poverty, traded art for basic necessities, & only achieved monetary success and recognition after death. It’s a dirty secret that we don’t want to talk about bcz it shows us how blind we can be. Don’t let it happen again with exceptional young AI artists. Major platforms like xAI can sponsor them with unlimited Image usage. That can be a start.. a beginning of a beautiful collaboration. Think about it Elon Musk and @grok

Utopia for humans imo is never meant to be perfect. It’s a state of being vigilance for less noise, less mess. But we are inherently chaotic in various gradients. Thus, even in utopia it will still be ruled with power dynamics. A much lop-sided one I think. A larger silent majority
Most post-scarcity utopias either hand-wave (“everything is perfect l”) or are weirdly timid (everyone’s rich, nobody has cancer). I have a favourite exception, but it’s the epilogue to a long book. Happily, someone’s adapted it to a spoiler-free standalone. Link below!

I'm deeply concerned about Europe's future on AI. One of my biggest worries is our erosion of agency, our ability to stay relevant and fight for our values in a future where AI becomes a civilisationally important technology. Myself, @DadaJudith , @bakkermichiel and others have written a scenario to outline a potential future we worry we are on track towards. europe2031.ai/ Every optimistic and realistic path I can see for Europe runs through a central node - one where Europe has more leverage, more importance and more say. One where Europe grows more, builds more where it matters, and takes ownership over its resilience. Europe 2031 is a five-year scenario of the continent's slide into irrelevance: how AI is driving it, and what can still be done. The co-authors are researchers, scientists and investors who have advised European leaders, co-authored national AI strategies, built and funded these systems from the inside. We have no interest in hype and we deeply care about this continent. Europe 2031 ends with five concrete recommendations: - drastically more compute on European soil - an AI middle-power coalition - labour-market reforms - a bold position in robotics and industrial AI - and a positive vision of what AI can do for society. Europe can still change course if it finds the political will and the courage to engage in the most ambitious political and economic agenda the continent has undertaken in peacetime. I encourage you to read it if you have the time:

Doves do not cry; they sing A tear-spun melody woven not Of pain but of memory Morning comes, mourning goes Blankets formed by sturdy hands Repeating gentle sweeps of down Layer after layer… She wings away, with crystal day To caulk the turbid night Through painter’s kiss, the past abyss Dissolves through coats of white.
