From time to time, folks will see a discussion of of my work going on and say, "I didn't know you worked on (fill in the gap)." Hence, this video.... youtu.be/zDJ6lIDI2-8

Is there still an episode of Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors in your head you wouldn't mind writing? Maybe Sawboss gets overthrown by someone more powerful that the Root can't stop.

Only when there's a reason to do so, because when I watch an ep all I can focus on is wishing I could go back and adjust a few words, or a few frames, here and there. "Art is never finished, only abandoned." Michelangelo

@straczynski Do you ever go back and watch episodes of shows that you wrote? Any notable favourites?

Honestly, I used to come to the UK once a year, for a very long while, because from the first time I came to London it felt like home. Always wanted to live and work here. So I finally decided to bite the bullet, went through the visa process to make it happen, and here I am.

Do you like it here? I can't imagine why anyone would swap the US for the UK these days (especially in the last 10 years) but I hope you're happy and welcome to the UK.

I don't tender in the usual way in that I'm a free agent, not associated at this time with any one major streamer or network. But on the flipside, that means I can team up with any production entity that wants to have a discussion.

JMS. Doctor Who is an institution that has lost its way. Take it back to a SCI FI for all the family that embraces the world backdrop that allows escapism. If you have ideas. Please tender.

I think both those are good options right there.

I would support you taking over @bbcdoctorwho ! Who do we write to at @BBC to make this happen?

I'm sure it would be helpful. I profoundly appreciate all the good comments aimed in my direction on this topic, but if fans feel a particular way, for or against, it needs to be directed at those who are responsible for opening the door before we can even have that conversation.
Would fans starting a petition help or hinder your chances? I would gladly do anything possible so that the BBC know fans want your involvement in the next Doctor Who revival without jeopardizing it of course!

Yes, after selling my house to begin the process of the move to the UK, I lived in San Diego during the long visa application process. Finally moved to the UK last July after the visa was approved.

Ah, but I'm not the one you need to convince.

Personally yes, perhaps the show needs another view point.

A (relatively) quick note to respond to the (much appreciated) scores of (very nice) notes online regarding today's news about Doctor Who. My interest and record is well-established; the only real question I think the BBC would (very fairly) ask is: would British fans be open --

-- to an American showrunner, even one who is legally a resident of the UK under a visa that allows me to work for in TV/film in the UK? I think so but I doubt they'd just take my word for it, nor should they. The fan community would have to have their (polite, constructive) say.

books.google.com/books/about… salempress.com/critical_insi… orrt.org/ellison/criticism.a… That last one links to over 20 critical and literary analyses of Harlan's work in major journals, newspapers and other publications.
I haven't seen any serious literary criticism or commentary on HE.

Tangentially: my outlines suck so bad that when I get an assignment to write one, I'll often write the script first, not tell anyone, then write the outline based on the script, and turn that in. Then when notes come in I drop them into the already written script and send it in.
Replying to @straczynski
@straczynski, a while back you posted that ypu still write for 16 -18 hours a day. I am, curious, do you outline every/any script you write first? Or do you ever write without an outline? I am horrible at writing my own outlines, but having one has absolutely been beneficial

Or, conversely, some weird shit I wrote on my bedside notepad in the middle of the night then later couldn't read most of.

Notionally a wire frame. Or a wire frame of notions. Light, unimposing structure that’s more of a reminder than a mission.

Neither. I begin with an idea of where I want to start and where to finish, jot down just a few quick notes about things I think should happen along the way, and leave the rest to discover in the moment. For me writing a full outline takes the fun out of it.

And then it ate them.

Today I was reminded of this production of Jeff Wayne's musical The War of the Worlds. I bought the original album back in '79 and it became a lifelong favorite. Some EFX leave a bit to be desired, but the rest remains terrific if you haven't seen it. youtube.com/watch?v=wqDJiIWh…
