Totally false. There IS a permanent underclass of mentally ill and addicts, but in fact a huge amount of homelessness is composed of ppl who were mid-class or even rich & had several catastrophes happen at once (usually 2 of: divorce, job loss, death, and/or serious illness)

This is where all of the lettuce consumed in North America is grown outside of the coldest winter months where it’s all grown on the lower Colorado. 500K is the maximum population you can have there without abolishing hamburgers.
Given how rare large swaths of flat land are to come by on the California Coast and how dire the state is in need of housing its surprising to me that the Salinas Valley hasn't been developed more its only got 390K people!
