A lot of brand-new councillors who are going to get quite the shock when their rhetoric crashes into the reality of local government finance and delivery. Good luck to them, and I hope they make good choices.

Reform now have 9 months to deliver what they promised for Lancashire County Council: - No Council Tax rises. - No Cuts. - Zero Council Debt. - No potholes. - No officers paid over 100k. - More money for all. Why do I get the feeling this is like Brexit promises all over again?

Or was really interesting, I learned a great deal.
Had an outstanding session at Swindon Borough Council with @AdviserCare - Mark Riddell MBE -the National Adviser for Care Leavers today with Cabinet, the Shadow Lead and officers. He was great, really passionate and thoughtful and will really help us improve our offer!

See that Reform Uk are keen to screw farmers over again. Lowering food standards now after screwing them with Brexit.
Chlorinated Food. This is the type of chlorine washed salad eaten every day by millions of people in the UK. Yet there is outrage over chlorinated chicken. Simple solution - just don't buy it. It's not that complicated.

This Labour government is bringing the NHS back into democratic control, cutting red tape and giving more resources to the frontline. That means better care for patients and better value for taxpayers.

Labour is delivering for working people in Swindon. A huge boost to the minimum wage, and better rights on sick pay and banning exploitative zero hours contracts and fire and rehire. Change has begun! 🌹

It'll never stop amazing me that the "pro market" party is so bad at basic investment math. Yes, it would cost less to slap a short term fix to the barest minimum standard than it will to future proof the housing stock to avoid longer term problems 🙄swindonadvertiser.co.uk/news…

If they'd done their job properly over the last 20 years instead of letting the housing stock degrade to the point of near-unliveability, this would be a cheaper situation to resolve. But they genuinely do not understand the concept of investing to save.

Cost of everything, value of nothing. But not even that - because the cost of fixing the roof when the sun was shining is lower than replacing the whole top floor in a hurricane, which you would *think* is something even market fundamentalists can grasp.

The UK’s support for Ukraine is unwavering. Today @RachelReevesMP and @SergiiMarchenk3 signed the UK-Ukraine Bilateral Agreement to deliver £2.26bn of new funding to Ukraine, part of a G7 scheme. This will be paid back using profits from sanctioned Russian sovereign assets.

Labour is building the homes that our families in Swindon need - putting the dream of home ownership back in reach. That’s the difference you get with Labour in power.   #BuildingABetterSwindon
