in 2003 my mother staged a photoshoot with me in the front lawn on our cul de sac so she could take pics of the aftermath of a domestic kerfuffle that ended with a wife throwing her husband's things out on their lawn (and later burning them)

ALT For My Students,
After the Election
There are still your stories, still stars
in the pine trees. There are still children
making their way back from school, trying
not to step on cracks in the sidewalk,
believing it matters. There are still mothers
kneeling in the ruins, promising
the gunshots aren't coming.
There are still fathers
alone in the night, the wounds in them
like mule-deer in the orchards, trying not
to clack their antlers. There is still
the heart, the moon.
Come, loves, let's stand here
after madness. The world
is not over, only broken.
There are old books, there are horses
in the lemon trees. There are children, still,
waiting in the classrooms, looking up
with tired eyes full of wonder.
Look at them. There is work we have to do.
—Joseph Fasano
if there’s one thing today is making me realize, it’s that i am so confident in my beliefs. i LOVE the empathy i have for others. i love that i care more about basic human rights than the cost of groceries. i love that i voted to move forward instead of voting to stay divided.
I think then next four years are going to be really bad for vulnerable individuals and that makes me deeply sad. We have a significant empathy problem in this country. While I am glad I was raised to think about others, I’m blown away by how unimportant that is to so many people
if you are a manager it is your responsibility to give your reports grace today. it is your responsibility to make them feel heard and seen.
it is your responsibility to lead with empathy. it is your responsibility to be a human first. always.
No matter what happens, it saddens me deeply that rape, felonies, trying to overthrow our democracy, misogyny, racism and transphobia are somehow not deal breaks for 10’s of millions of Americans.
we hate women so much it's honestly impressive. it is a consistent, unchangeable force, as constant as the sun. no joke here. can I have lithium please :)
Godspeed to you if you're going to a party (?) to watch tonight, but I had a party in 2016 to watch the results, and the vibe shift that happened was so sudden and horrific that I'll quite simply never do that again in my life.
"The entire population of North Gaza is at risk of dying."
This is a statement from the United Nation's most senior humanitarian official.
She could not be more explicit.
Her statement is barely covered by the Western media.
