We fell for Soham Parekh as well. Very unfortunate! He worked for Ema for around two months, never moved to Bangalore as he promised. Underperformed and under delivered - we are an intense company, you cannot succeed at Ema unless you are two hundred percent into it.

When we started Ema, we wanted to experiment building an organization with no managers. Famously Google had tried it long time back and did not succeed, but we thought it was worth revisiting it and try out for some time. As our teams grew we realized we need managers. But we wanted a radically different type of managers and management philosophy than what is taught in business school or popular management literature. Here are the key tenets we came up with: * We’ve no “manager only” role in the company. * Ema managers build championship teams, don’t win popularity contests. * Embrace the impossible. * Don’t be afraid to “micro-manage”, we call it “micro leadership”. * Instill resilience. * Prioritize impact over activity. * Build Trust, Excellence and Accountability, Not Entitlement. * Give and take feedback as often as possible. * Always be available for your team.
