ALT Photo of lived experience commentary - As autistic adults with experience of mental health services, it is encouraging to see that adaptations have been implemented to improve support for autistic people. However, it is important to acknowledge that accessing support is not straightforward for autistic adults because of various barriers (e.g. professionals lacking appropriate knowledge of autism, lack of preferred communication methods, stigma, complex referral pathways, long waiting lists, inappropriate and short-term therapies, lack of trauma focus, cost). This is problematic considering UK services have a legal duty to make reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act 2010. See https://doi.org/10.1192/bjo.2024.707
